Season starts on Friday here for us and didn't know if any of our hunters with youth heard anything this last week.
Down here in Jefferson and Franklin counties , we heard 3 yesterday morning and 3 this morning. Gobbled 3 or 4 times on roost and clammed up. Got on one yesterday morning and had 8 or 9 hens fly down to him. Weather was cloudy , rainy and windy. Combine that with henned up birds , it makes it really tough. Hopefully Friday the weather will be good and I can kill one of those satellite birds that bounds to be close to the head honcho and his flocks.
Supposed to be cloudy and cold Friday here. Not a good recipe for gobbling from my experience in MS.
Suppose to be sunny , low 40's high 60. Im ready to roll
nothing in central ms. yet
Haven't been out. Life happens. Hoping this weekend will be different from last year. Good luck everyone.
Heard a couple on Sunday...probably gobbled around 15 times but never on their own. If we could get a couple sunny days in a row they might perk up.
Been out a couple of times in central MS and have only heard deer blowing at me. I believe that the birds just haven't really started getting cranked up yet. They may still be in gendered groups at this point. When it breaks open it will be epic.
I've heard a few. Haven't had much time to listen. Mainly seeing them on my route. All the turkey hunters are nice to the ups man especially this time of year!! Seems the older birds already have big groups of hens. Have seen a lot of big groups of just 2 yr olds too.
Greene County report, my youth hunter stood me up for football camp this past weekend so I didn't go. My dad just called and he'd been listening to one this morning. Said he started gobbling early and gobbled about 10 times on his own. Weather is going to be crappy this weekend but I'll be out there getting crappy with it.
My buddy took his son to our lease this am. He heard six. Said they gobbled good until their lady friends showed up. They were not together either. Just a update for Southwest Ms.
got my fingers crossed for Friday, last turkey I saw had a life jacket on
Southwest Ms. I heard 2 groups Saturday evening and went back Sunday morning with my lil girl and called in 5 jakes that were gobbling their heads off. Assuming the Lb must have had hens else where and was tight lipped

Heard a few birds last couple of morning in north ms.
Heard 2 Sunday morning on the limb, stopped gobbling after it started to rain a bit. Did have one walk up silent 30 yards behind us about an hour later but the youth couldn't get turned around in time.
Heard one gobble ~20 times on limb yesterday morning but was on private land and We were on public land.
It's getting closer....
Dad went this morning to listen and didn't hear a peep. We know they are around because we have cameras out but they are tight lipped right now.
Took my niece last Sunday morning (March 10th) and didn't hear a peep. Weather was perfect, low wind, clear skies, upper 40's but not a peep. This was in north central Mississippi fyi.
Nothing in north MS and know birds are around.
Gobbling is picking up in Noxubee county. Most wonderful time of the year is finally here.
Great report from my neck of the woods this morning. :jackson: 4 of them hammering and they're on land I can hunt. Now if I can just live till Friday and the weather cooperate. :camohat:
Windy and nasty here this morning. Not a sound that my ears could even mistake as a gobble no matter how much i wanted to hear one. :newmascot:
I heard one Tuesday morning, but it was a clammy, windy, low pressure day. Weather is supposed to be nice for the next week though. Hopefully they'll act accordingly. Ready for the woods to start greening up as well. It's wide open right now.
Setting up camp in a thunderstorm this evening. I'll be off the grid. I'll give a report on Monday. Good luck.
They're strutting in fields . Gobbling hasn't really got cranking yet here in central which is surprising as early as this spring seems to be dogwoods already blooming here
We heard two one on public only gobbled 5 times, one on private gobbled 20+. I heard one gobble at 938 one time on public yesterday.
Central MS been twice. Windy both days. No gobbling. Did see birds both days

We heard not one gobble on our 1300 acre property. Wonder where our birds went. The places they have been for the past ten years are barren.

Same here in SW Alabama. I walked for miles on our property this past weekend and didn't cut a track, much less hear a gobble.

nothing yesterday and one gobbled 3 times in the tree this morning then shut up.
I have more turkeys this year than I have in last 4-5 years. Mainly due to trapping of coons and possums last year. Just no gobbling yet....

hunted this past Friday(22nd) and Saturday(23rd)
two birds gobbled a few times on the limb Friday, one bird gobbled twice after he flew down Saturday, that was it.
central miss.
They were gobbling good this morning in central MS (simpson co)
Still gobbling good for me from the past two weekends! Birds are really starting to bust up in my area of north MS. This weekend should be great if the weather will cooperate
