Looking for a choke to shoot 2 oz. #5 lead.
My current XX Comp n Choke and .695 Hastings shoot the worst patterns I have seen this gun shoot. Must need choked pretty good.
I haven't tried Flightcontrol loads in the Hastngs yet, they may do good just need to buy some and shoot.
Sure wish manufacturers hadn't stopped making good heavy loads for the 10. Those old 2 1/4 oz. XX #5 were the cats meow in my 10.
What say you?
I have the Hastings .700 and the SRM Terror .705 for my BPS. I've never used the new 2oz. loads from Federal or Winchester. I have a 250 round flat of the old Winchester XX Supreme 2 1/4oz. #5 that I use and each choke patterns great with that shell. There is a guy on GunAuction.com that has some of the old 2 1/4oz. #5 Win XX Supreme's for sale. He has several buy now auctions for 1,2,4, or 5 boxes.
Found it.
Different hull than the older ones I was shooting but I bet they are still some bad SOBs.
Were you shooting the old paper base wad Winchester hulls? The ones he's selling are plastic base wad hulls. Winchester had a few variations on their all plastic hulls. I have several boxes of XX Supreme 2 1/4oz. #4 with an eight point crimp. Prior to buying them I had never seen an 8 point crimp on a 10ga. shell before and not since.
I believe so. 8 crimp for sure. Smooth hull w smaller writing.
I have an old #2 lead load at house w same style hull as those #5.
These were bought in about 95 or 96 when I bought my first true "turkey" choke. Never had seen a gun shoot like mi e did with those loads and the .695 Hastings.
Still use that tube some although my Comp n Choke does a bit better w 2 1/4 oz. #4s. Be interesting to see what it would do with the old #5s.
I could never get the 2 1/4 oz. loads (except for #2 shot) to pattern as well as the 2 oz. loads.
The old 2 oz. Winchester Supreme HV shells in #6 patterned like MONSTERS outta my BPS 10 through a Comp-N-Choke XXX-Full tube. Then they quit making them in #6...................... figures.
The same shell in #5 still patterns VERY strong. But not like the #6's.

I agree. I have hoarded 4 full boxes of the HV 6's. I know they like my BPS with an original .695 Bansner made Tru-Glo Choke. Shame they quit making them. The loads and the choke.
If you can find a hastings 675, it is the ticket for lead loads in that gun
457121 could you post a link? I couldn't find those shells on gunauction.com. Thanks!

No problem!
I guess I should've bid 3 days ago when I didn't have any competition!!
I am surprised these haven't been bought yet. Have been past the bidding date/time 3 times I believe.

Actually this ammo has been on Gun auction from this seller for years. I bought a 250 round flat from him for $235 shipped back in 2015. He had a half dozen flats for sale at one time plus the 1,2,3,5 box auctions. I've been reloading 10ga. ammo since I was in high school back in the '80's and you couldn't load them for the price of a flat ($.94 each) if you had to buy new hulls.

Yeah.......................that's what I shoulda done, too. But I didn't. Who'da ever thunk they'd quit making such a fantastic and popular shell ???
I guess whoever at Winchester made THAT decision left and went to Federal so he could kill the Heavyweight loads, too.............. :(
When ya'll talk about a 2 oz load of #5 lead being a good pattern, what kind of numbers are you referring to? I have some Federal 2 oz #5 copper plated lead and they are terrible in a Sumtoy .685 out of a 32 inch H&R barrel.

I have some older Federal Grand Slam or High Energy, cannot remember which but they are terrible. Either need to sell them or get me a choke to shoot them.
Kind of remind me of the 12 gauge 3" 1 3/4 oz. #5s, pizz poor load in all guns I tried them in.
These. Glad they were cheap, might make a good load to get an optic on target.
