Title: NYS trap and transfer memorial 1959
Post by: tracker#1 on July 09, 2017, 08:46:49 PM
On July 6th, 2017, 10 am, I had the privilege to attended a gathering at Allegany Red House, Allegany state park, NY, along with many dignitaries, DEC staff, NWTF reps, to listen to Fred Evans speak about the "trap and transfer" program he started as a NYS biologist in 1959 in the park. Fred was responsible for moving birds across NYS and other states, Connecticut , Delaware, Maryland, eastern seaboard etc. It was a great pleasure to be a part of history and meet the man who helped put a lot of smiles on hunters faces including my kids.... A stone (6'x4') memorial and plaque was erected on the exact spot where they used canon and capture nets the very first time in NY, 1959. The memorial is on Frances Brook rd, Red House area. Also there is a nice display in the museum at Red House administration building telling the story with video, pictures, mounted birds. Ever passing thru stop and see some history.
