Anyone shooting Win Rooster XR in #6. Want to pattern some when my Model 12 comes back from Briley but concerned about the pattern problems that seem to exist with the Long Beards. They have the same solid buffer.
I only have some bought when they first come out. 125-140 in the 10 at 40 yards.
21" Remington hevi-choke .662 and Carlson .660 chokes . 2 3/4" Rooster XR 6.
I do when I hunt with my old 12g Browning A5, which takes 2-3/4" shells only.

I would if I could get my hands on some!

Don't want to steal this thread but am thinking about Roosters myself...please do tell!

They are a very nice shell. A heck of a deal at 15 rounds per box. Very low recoil. Nice even patterns out to the 20".
Only thing is I have never seen any since.
Bass pro did have the ones I bought.
Try Feb. 25th 2016. Lead shooter section.
I know this is an old post but...
I was very fortunate the other day when I haphazardly stopped at a mom and pop type outdoor store. There on the shelf was 4 boxes of rooster xr. 2 3/4 inch 1 1/4 oz # 6 and #5.
I was able to buy one box. The store didn't allow hoarding and didn't gouge the price.
I really respected that.
Anyways, I had the chance to shoot it the other day out of my 835 with a.683 longbeard choke.
I was pleasantly surprised with 139 hits in a 10" circle at a ranged 40yd.
That turned out to be 50% of the payload in that circle.
This falls pretty much in line with the longbeard loads that I usually shoot.
I still would prefer to shoot the 'big boy' loads but am confident enough to hunt with these if Winchester continues not manufacture them, I can always fall back on these.
Nice,
was this with the 5's or 6's
did you shoot more than one to see if the POI stayed consistent?
Was that a Carlson's Long Beard Choke? .683, I thought they were .660 OR .665. That is good performance. I am going to pick up a box of the Double X's tomorrow.
Ches.

Sorry, that was the #6's.
I did shoot a #5 at 40 yards and got 97 hits.
I personally would feel confident with the #6's at 40 and the #5's at 35 yards.
The poi seemed low to me on all rooster xr shots I took. I didn't shoot any of my regular rounds to see if they hit where they did last year. I'm hoping my scope didn't get knocked around.

I'm fairly certain it's a .683 for a 835.
Thanks
