Title: wood Identification
Post by: blacky on June 10, 2016, 11:36:49 AM
Hey guys, I need some help in identifying this piece of wood. It resembles some chestnut I have but I am just not sure. Any help will be appreciated.

Geez it's hard to tell in that pic.  It does look like chestnut though.

Double, I cut that piece this morning and it has very little odor at all. Some have said it looks like ash.

Looks like white ash, maybe a bit to light colored for chestnut. Nice piece of wood, should make a nice call.

I would say Chestnut.  I build a lot of box calls using Chestnut and it looks VERY similar and since you said it has little smell when cut is also a positive sign for Chestnut.
