Whats the average age on O.G. and how many years have you been hunting ?
Im 62 and been turkey hunting 42 yrs.
68....started spring gobbler hunting in NM the year they opened the season, which by my feeble memory was 1965. Doing my guzintas, I think that translates to 55 years this spring.
I do recall, however, that in a couple of the very early years, they cancelled all or part of the turkey season due to fire danger on the national forest where we hunted. Hence, it may be that there was a year or two I may not have hunted. Fortunately, that was back when the spring gobbler bug had not fully set in and I did not go into the withdrawals I would if they were to do that nowadays...

turkey hunting 33 years
Bunch of youngsters LOL. Will have turned 75 by season's openers. Got a late start so only been at it for 44 years.
Just turned 50. Been hunting turkey's for 40 years. Called my first bird in using a piece of cane at the age of 13. I had cut a piece of cane and hollowed it out and it was in my pocket all the time. My first 2 calls were a flat piece of roofing slate that I cupped against my body and I used a homemade corncob striker with the tip burned. My other was a pill bottle with a condom stretched over it. Got my very first production call when I turned 14. It was a pennswood single sided box. Sounded terrible lol. When I got my lynch foolproof for my 15th birthday , I was estatic. I hunted with a mossberg 20 gauge modified choke shooting #4's. My gosh how far turkey hunting has come. I now have over 400 calls , 3 dedicated turkey shotguns , handload my own TSS , have a 4 wheel drive , a polaris Ranger and more camo and boots any one man should own lol.
51. Been chasing the three toed turkey birds for about 30 years

Proud for you and pray you have many more .
I'll turn 73 during this season and this will be my 31st year. I wish I'd started sooner because the hills are starting to get steeper and the turkeys are getting harder to find on flat ground.

39. Been after them for 26 years
I'm 55 rears old. Been hunting turkeys 43 years.
Started fall turkey hunting in perry county pennsylvania at our cabin when i was 12. Right in the mix with the Rohms and the Smiths. What a rich turkey hunting tradition that area has.
My uncles and grandpa did not hunt them in the spring. I had to wait till I was 16 to drive and spring hunt myself. I was the first in my family to buy camo clothing or run a diaphragm mouth call. What an adventure that was......
When I can no longer hunt just shovel dirt on me as my purpose on this earth is over.
I'm 53 been hunting turkeys for about 35 years.
62 been hunting turkeys 12 years. Turkeys have just made a comeback in my area. I've really gotten into it though, having gotten my Grand Slam and hunting multiple states as well. Love chasing Ole 3 toes.

I was thinking just the other day about one of my first spring hunts and how much i have learned since then. My dad had only turkey hunted very little before I started so we both had to learn everything as we went.

My grandpa showed me the ropes as a youngster. I remember, he would always set his Pennswoods mouth calls on a mantel above the washer and drawer, in what would now be consider a mud room. Being young and foolish, I didn't think about him slobbering on those calls, but I would give it a go at running them. I didn't start taking it super serious until I was old enough to drive around myself, but once I got the hang of calling and calling in my own birds, it was game over for me. Chasing spring gobblers is by far my favorite time of the year.
53....I got a late start on them. Started hunting turkey about 20 years ago....been seriously addicted for the past 15 years or so.
Before, I was hung up on deer and antlers....now, I'd rather shoot a jake with my bow than a 150" whitetail.

I'm 69...I don't know how that happened without me noticing
A buddy had been after me for years to go with him turkey hunting. I had been small game and later deer hunting, starting as a child of 10. I was passionate about all of it, but I had no idea what was in store for me when, on a gorgeous Spring morning, a guy came in to my work with a shining gobbler in the bed of his truck. That started something 20 or so years ago that I could never imagine. It's been my passion since that day.

42, and have been hunting for as long as I could walk. Killed first turkey at 9, so it's been about 33 years.
I'm 38 years old and been turkey hunting 23 years . Time sure flys ! When I first started I got to hunt with a guy who had been turkey hunting for years . Every time I seen him he had a gobbler in the back of the truck that either he killed or called in for someone else ! I owe a lot to him and can't thank him enough for teaching me the tricks of the trade ! I was able to hit the ground running and built a lot of great memories over the years ! I've also taught my younger brother and a friend of mine and I can say they are now pretty good turkey hunters ! Once again I would like to thank my mentor and teacher of this great sport !
32 and this will be my 13th year hunting them. My dad only duck hunted growing up so everything else I got into later in life on my own will

38. Be 39 in August. Hunted s few years off and on as a youngster. Nothing real serious. Just lucky a couple times. Shot my first spring bird at 19. After that I got into it more but still only when time was right. About the last 14-15 years I've MADE time. If they were bigger, I'd never kill another deer.

I turned 50 last month. If not for my car accident it would be 26 or 27 years but because of my car accident and losing 17 years it is only really 8 or 9 years.

73 years old been hunting since age six. I did not hunt turkeys until the spring of 1974 after military and WV's first spring bird season in my area and can't wait til April 11 for VA to open. Over those years I have learned a lot but not all I suppose. Right now I am recovering from a torn achilles tendon which was repaired on 24 Dec. and doing all I can to get back out there. I can assure you I'll be somewhere at daybreak on April 11. Good luck to all.
This spring makes 50 seasons chasing spring gobblers ! I still make mistakes LOL
31 years old, been hunting turkey for 11 years. Wish I would have started earlier but I'm got to make the most of what I've got ahead of me.
38,,,been hunting for 26 years.
Just turned 44 this will be my 31st spring.
Be 39 next month, I guess 23-25 years. I never had a mentor really so my first 5-6 years were pretty much just walking around in the spring. Shot a few but don't think I really called any in until I was about 20. I'll never forget that first one.
It was late in the season and bout 11am one day. There was a big Tom out struttin in my neighbors field, I could see from our barn. There was a ridge on my property that ended right at the edge of that field. It was thick with honey suckle and the leaves were on pretty good. I slipped out to the end of the ridge and had an elevated position over the field. But I couldn't see it at all. I got my old yeller out and made a few yelps. He gobbled once then nothing. I called a few more times but no answer. I sat there wondering if he was coming or not. I kept glancing at my watch and it was 11:50 the day was ending in 10 minutes. I was just about to assume he wasn't coming and leave when I heard for the first time ever a gobbler spit and drum. When I heard it I knew what it was. I never heard it before but it was just like I had imagined. I put my gun on my knee and kicked off the safety. Through the honey suckle bush that was directly in front of me I can see the glow of a white head. He rolled out from behind that bush in full strut at 12 yds! He saw me and llifted his head. Bad mistake! I have been hooked ever since.
I have gotten pretty good at killing em now. I actually have guys call me to take em or their kids out. I love it and can't wait for spring.
60 this season will be 40 seasons Lord willing.
51 and 39 years chasing turkeys.
