Had a friend call and say he picked up a used SP10 with 23 inch barrel. Told him I would load him up some TSS9 to try in it. In the meantime I decided to run one of them through both of my 10 ga guns and here is what I got. In my H&R with 32 inch barrel and .685 Sumtoy got 453 hits in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards, and I did not move the circle to get the highest count. Shot the same shell in my SP10 with a 26 inch barrel and a .695 Jellyhead and it got 366 hits in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards. The 2 1/2 oz load of TSS I shot has 905 pellets, so the 453 hits in H&R was 50% of payload which is about as good as it gets I think.
that will kill some birds. May be the best pattern I have ever seen.
Put a Kicks 720 in either gun and it will put that pattern to shame.
Awesome. My cuz who uses an SP-10 will drool when he sees this pattern. Good luck with it, even though the Toms need more luck than you to survive on the receiving end of that payload :-)
Rockhound, what would you think the number of hits would increase to with a Kick's .720?
I'd say it push it closer to 500
Out of my BPS 24" barrel shooting strait #8s 254/oz 2.5oz load I put 402 in the 10" and only 17 pellets out side of the 20" circle. Thats shooting an IC .710.

Out of my BPS 24" barrel shooting strait #8s 254/oz 2.5oz load I put 402 in the 10" and only 17 pellets out side of the 20" circle. Thats shooting an IC .710.
Interesting, that is 63% of payload in 10 inch circle. Have you tried TSS 9 in that choke? If the math stayed true it should do 570 with 9's.
Thats a great pattern, after looking at the patterns on the apex site imop u might be able to do better.i will be trying some for next year, by the way what does your sumtoy 685 look like on the inside? I posted pictures of mine, it necks down in steps rather then smooth, never seen this before.

Never tried 9s in the 10ga. But from shooting 9s, 8s, and 7s in 12ga loads and alot of patterning with all guages at long ranges. There is no since in using a pellet size that doesn't have enough penetration to kill at at the distance the pattern will hold up for a clean kill. There is 2 chokes that I have for the 10ga that both put up 400 numbers with 8s at 40yds.
What are the 2 chokes? What is the longest range u would use tss 9 for good penatration?
That is a great pattern, 50 percent in 10 at 40is awesome, 50 percent is very hard to achieve with any load.

Yes I could see it doing 500+ I have a 12ga 3" 2 Oz that is averaging 466 in the 10" at 40yds. They are 365/oz.
Very impressive pattern Deadbuck! What kind of velocity are you getting with a 2.5 oz load?
recipe says 1093 fps, but I have not shot it over my chrono yet.
Thanks for the info. I was just curious how much velocity there would be with a 2.5 oz load. I have only shot lead and some old Remington hevi shot from my 10. I think the hevi shot I have is 1-7/8 at 1225 fps if I remember right. 2.5 oz of tss at over 1000 fps ought to be pretty devastating on both ends!
The recoil is about like any other 10 ga shells I have shot including BB and 4B. However the recoil is less than the 10 ga magnum blend, which is in my opinion the hardest kicking shell ever made.
Thank you for the info!
^great pattern
I agree ....the 10 gauge MagBlend......2 3/8oz out of my NEF....is the hardest kicking shell I have ever shot. No doubt.
I see 2.5" gel penetration as standard to kill geese.Anyone know at what distance does #9 TSS at 1300fps achieves that? I've read #6 TSS is 86.2 yards,#7.5 TSS is 58.9 yards.
