Title: 3" or 3.5" in Hevi Shot
Post by: jb177 on March 04, 2011, 12:03:16 AM
I've got a box of 3" #6's in Hevi 13 to try.  I read a lot about the #7s and would like to pick some up to try as well.  Are you guys using 3" or 3.5"?  I've heard that people believe the 3.5 has too many pellets to be consistent out of a 12 gauge bore....

I use the 3"

*Cheaper
*Less recoil
*Same energy that will kill to 50+yards

ditto.  picked up 4 boxes at $17.99 from Mack's, $5 rebate per box = 2.60 per boom - not that bad - I don't plan on shooting more than 5 or 6 times this season...

3 inchers will run in my M2 and my Gold so I've doubled my number of turkey guns...

I've been using the 3" 2oz Hevi-13's for the last three years since I
got off the Nitro train.
The #6's pattern well for me and are lethal on a Turkey.
I shot the blended 5,6,7's last week and was very impressed with them,
so it looks like I will be shooting both loads this year.

I have never had much luck getting a 3 1/2 shell to pattern for me.

As far as #7's go I have no problem with them just want more down
range energy and am happy with shot delivered with the #6's and the
blended 5,6,7's.

3 inchers are all i need to kill birds at my hunting ranges, 2. 3/4 would probably be fine as well for me :z-guntootsmiley:

I'm not looking for really large numbers, but more of a nice consistent pattern that does it's job day in and day out.

In the past, I would always go 3.5" just figured more pellets, the better.  I'm learning a lot as I go.

3 in good enough to get the job done as long as you know your pattern.

been buying 3" lately so I can use them in all my shotguns if I decide to
they kill just as far as a 3.5"

if the HTL shells had come out in full force BEFORE the 3.5" shell,I don't believe we would have ever seen the longer shell
