Anyone have suggestions on a good quality wax for calls besides Renaissance? I have a box or 2 that I would like to put a quality shine on.

Johnson's paste wax.

That said, I use Renaissance.

Renaissance is all I use on my turkey calls. Never found it lacking in any area.

Same here.

Can I ask why you don't like Renaissance?

I do like Renaissance. I use it on alot of my trumpets. I'm just experimenting on a couple boxes that I take with me in the woods and looking for a good paste wax that leaves brings out the grain as well as provides a good layer of protection.

Interesting post, I've never seen the need to wax any of my calls .. good post...

Is there a benefit to waxing a box call or is it just for looks?

I'd be scared to get it on the rails or bottom of lid accidentally

Minwax paste wax works well.

After seeming this thread when it first started I pick up some of the recommended wax and done my calls that I carry all the time...Rain or shine they are with me...I couldn't believe how much that wax brought them back to life.

I will forever do this now

Good deal. After trying 3 different paste wax brands on calls, I find that Old Masters paste wax works best for the box calls that I'm putting them on. I am applying it to turpin style boxes that have smooth sides and lids. It really helps make the grain stand out.

Me neither, never heard of it. Guess that's why we tune into OG.

Renaissance is good insurance...it works and protects...what's not to like.
