3" 870 Shell Shucker

INV+ Indian Creek SS BDS .665 & 28" BPS Pattern Numbers at 63 Degrees

3" 1.75 Ounce Winchester Supreme HV #5 Lead = 131 in 10" at 40 Yards

3" 2 Ounce PMC Copper Plated #6 Lead = 170 in 10" at 35 Yards

3" 1.875 Ounce Handloaded 4x6x7.5 Lead = 210 in 10" at 35 Yards

All 3 Patterns were nice and even, with close enough POA/POI to use the factory bead.  This is the best "across the board" performance I've ever gotten.  Even better than the patterns I've gotten using my old style .665 Indian Creek in my 870.

I shot the two 35 Yard patterns to compare with some old patterns from last year that I shot through different guns and chokes.

Nice patterns. I just got a 28" barrel back from the gunsmith. Converted it from 2 3/4 to 3 inch and put Tru-choke threads in the barrel. Hastings .665/ Kicks .655. I'm going on another venture with the Win 5's. I have 3/1 3/4/ 5's,  3/1 7/8 /5's, and 3/2/5's. I am hopeful to beat my best with the longer barrel.  Any thoughts?

*best I've come up with is 100 in a 10 @ 40    Rem 870/21" bbl/ kicks .655/ Win XX 3/2/6. :boon:

*after testing the 5's didnt produce.

*123 @ 40 out of the 28" barrel/ Kicks .655  Win XX 3/2/6's

*Ordered a Indian Creek .665 for the 21" barrel 870. Hoping to shoot Hevi 13 3/2/6's. Anybody shoot the 3/2/6's out of the IC .665?

I can get 180 - 200 with 26" 870 SM and 3.5" 2 oz HV 6's with a Kicks 0.650". With the barrel I cut down to 21" I haven't found a choke to break 120.

Using the same brand choke (Indian Creek) and exit diameter (.665) in each gun, the BPS beat my 870 by:

Winchester Supreme HV #5 Lead at 40 Yards = 15 Pellets
PMC 2 Ounce Lead 6's at 35 Yards = 27 Pellets

I'm impressed with the INV+ performance.  Though, I do realize that I have more net constriction in the BPS.  I've read that you have to have more constriction with INV+ guns.

Awesome lead pattern! Sure hope the 26" will make that kinda difference out of my gun. Guess I will try the 6's as well. Thanks for the info.

I had similar numbers with the Winchester XX 3.5"#6's in the gray box and a Remington XXX full extended turkey choke.

If you can get your hands on some, try the Win XX Mag 3-2-5 or 3-2-6.  They always pattern better than the 1.75 oz high velocity loads in both my BPS and my Nova.

What kind is numbers have been able to turn out of the Rem 870 /IC .665 and lead @ 40. Looks like you got 115 out of the HV 5's @ 40. I can tell you if I ever see 130's out of Pb 5's I would be done with HTL. What about the 6's @ 40? Have you shot the mag blends out of the Rem 870/ IC .665?

If I could get those numbers I would be done with Hevi. I shoot Hevi #7s 31/2-2.25oz in 870 SM 26" with Jelly Head 660 and get 300 in 10" at 40. With the prices going up so much I tried the Win. HV 31/2-2oz #6s and counted two areas on the pattern and got 74 and 77 in the 10" at 40 with the Jelly Head. If I'm going to shoot lead looks like I'm going to be changing chokes. I would like to shoot the HV #6s but before the Hevi's I was getting upper 80s in the 10" with Rem. 3inch #5s with my RSF choke. I may give the RSF a try with the HV 6s before I buy another choke. I'm sure I will be shooting lead next year if I can get a good combo.
