Title: Good 10"# with Cheap #5 Lead
Post by: 3" 870 Shell Shucker on April 07, 2013, 11:14:03 PM
Today I shot 135 in 10" at 40 Yards at 71 Degrees with Gray Box 3" Win Super X 1 7/8 Ounce #5 Lead through my 870 and Indian Creek .665 choke.

Now, the 20" pattern had some big holes in it, and so it was not to my liking, but the best 10" was Nice.

My INV+ Indian Creek .665 shot great numbers right out of the gate.  The same choke in my 870 didn't start out as hot, but over time as I've run more and more turkey loads through it, it seems to be shooting better and better.

That same shell has turned one of my best 3",#5 numbers as well at 131 out of a browning invector + and a ssx.

Those shoot good from my 835 too.  I shot 119 - 10" last season with a pretty good 20" count also.

I wish our Walmart still carried them since they were $6.47 a box.

The best 10" was awesome, but the area between 10" and 20" was not at all.

Best 10" circle I ever shot with #5's, but it's like 80% of what was inside 20" was inside the 10" circle.

I finally broke the 100 @ 40 with Pb 5's

Rem 870 28" bbl
Kicks .660
Win HV 3" 5's

146 in a 10 @ 30
102 in a 10 @ 40

This same gun with kicks .655/ win Pb 6's turns:
250's in a 10 @ 30
140's-150's in a 10 @ 40

Gonna be tuff to put down the 6's

I'd stay with the 6's.

That's what I was thinking, this gun shoots consistently 130's to 140's with the kicks .655/ 6's and will also put nearly the entire pattern in a 10 @ 20yds...out to 40 it's a killer. Most of the turkeys I shoot are 30 or less anyway.

I'd definitely stay with the 6s. My 1187 loves that shell in 6s through an IC .665 as well. Shot a 145 @ 76 degrees and a 120 @ 65 degrees.
