Title: Longbeard pattern.
Post by: spurman on March 21, 2017, 04:39:01 PM
Not to bad a pattern and fairly even, 157 in the 10 at 40 yds, not hardly as good as Heavyweight 7. BUT, a 1 1/4 oz of 6's for the Longbeards and 1 1/2 of 7 with the heavies. Only getting around 10 more holes in the 10 with HW.

Haymaker .560 choke, Rem. 1100 youth model 20ga.

Looks like you found the right combo!

That's probably one of the best lead 20 ga. patterns I've ever seen. It won't cause me to change from TSS or HW's as my backup, but it's good to know that there is a commercially available lead shell out there that can do this. Thank you for the picture.

I concur, thanks for actually posting pictures.

They're not as bad as was being conveyed. I'd hunt that....

I agree turkey season is in full swing down south. They had all year to get the ball rolling why do company's struggle to get products out on time...

I know fellas very frustrating I am having the same problem with the heavyweights. I picked my 20 ga longbeards up at the NWTF convention in Feb. They had a pallet of them when I was there on Friday and I think they sold out.

Very nice pattern in my opinion I know we all strive for good pattern at 40 but I never shoot one past 35 yds usually .

I tried the Winchester LB #6s out of my 1187 26" barrel w the truglo SSX and tightwad at 40yds and both left much to be desired, I'll stick to hevi 13 7s from that gun. I then tried them in my Mossberg 500 22" barrel, and was surprised at the difference. Using an Indian Creek I got 182 pellets in a 10" circle and 137 w a tightwad.

Winchester Longbeard XR #6 at 30 yards
remington 870 w 26"b arrel and Sumtoy 562
This was done at 30 due to windy conditions. I will post a pic
w same setup and a Federal HW #7
thats a 7" circle BTW.

Hope this helps...I know there hard to come by.  I was lucky and a buddy got me a few boxes at NWTF nashville.
My 2 cents after shooting them in 2 diff guns is that there prob the best Lead loads i have used.  But wont make me
switch from Heavyweights.  Hunt SAfe and good luck

Stoeger m3020 with factory turkey choke and longbeard 5s at 40 yards. 129-10 note that I could have adjusted the circle a little and got 135ish in the 10. I would have never imagined it in a 20 with lead!

Spurman: have you patterned anymore longbeards. I read. Your post again, and was just wondering what length barrel you have on your 1100 remington? Would like to have a pattern that good.    Buford

It's a 21 in barrel and the choke adds 1 1/2 inches. I've not patterned it any more.
