Title: First morning in New York (Day #2 pic added)
Post by: Roost 1 on May 13, 2019, 06:04:42 PM
Wife and I came up to New York for our 25th wedding anniversary and she's agreed to let me hunt in the mornings.  Had a great first morning today, got in tight before light. They gobbled good on the limb but had 7 hens with them. However it didn't take long, had my first NY gobbler by 5:45. Daylight comes early up here..

Day #2 was raining and windy set up within 100yds of a bird we roosted the evening before. Despite the weather he gobbled pretty good on the limb. Flew down early but hung up and would not commit, just strutted back and forth and gobble some at the calling. However after some time he was eventually getting a little closer and closer but there was some traffic on nearby road and each car that came by would push him back towards the woods. Finally he crept up a point where I was pretty confident I could seal the deal. Lights out at 40yds.....tagged out in New York. Gonna give them a try in Vermont starting tomor.
