Beard falling out

Dr. Lovett I am sure this has been asked numerous times on the old site, but I bagged a gobbler 4-2-11 in Tennessee when I went to check his beard length when you pulled on it it would come out the beard was only 7" long and the bird had 3/4" spurs other than this the bird looked good and weighed 17.5 lbs. I this a normal occurrence?
