Title: Mossberg International SA-28
Post by: Spring Creek Calls on March 30, 2021, 01:17:24 PM
Have run a dozen Remington and Federal high brass lead thru this gun for function testing and POA/POI.  Pattern test was 35 yards. Here's the info if anyone is interested.

Youth SA-28 23" Barrel
Briley XFULL. 523
Apex 9.5's 1-3/8 oz
35 Measured Yards
Turkey Target 8.5"×11"
Backdrop 22"×28"
Dirty Barrel

The gun threw the 3/4oz lead hulls 6', the 1-3/8oz TSS hulls 25'.

Here's a picture. With the addition of sling mounts, extended choke and recoil pad (LOP+) it weighs in right at 6 lbs, 5.5 lbs prior to additions. Pad is the bulk of the additional weight but made for the perfect length for hunting out of a ground seat, in my case a lounger.

I have the SA-28 in a full size wood stock shooting the same exact choke. I got my best patterns from my 1 1/4 oz TSS #9 reloads. Al Baker

I know this is an old thread, but where did you get your sling mounts? I was told the magazine cap was too thin to put a sling mount on. I have the same gun I put together for my son and love it so much I've started carrying it some. It sure beats lugging around an SBE2 12ga.

The sling mounts are from GrovTec Barrel Band Swivel Set GTSW43  .630 - .675 Diameter
Be aware the barrel band will need to be removed for disassembly/assembly.

Know it's an old thread but that's neat! I just got my first 28 a franchi diamond o/u. Very tempted to try a choke and some loads for turkey!
