A couple years ago I paid a visit to Ralph Snodgrass and made this video. He makes a great call and is one of the few old school turkey hunters left in the sport.

Great Subject line...Lol...My wife after all these years has never and will never get use to my practicing turkey calls in the house. In fact they are multipurpose...If I want the house to myself that is... Anyone know how long Ralph's call wait list is??His mini long box has been on my turkey call bucket list for awhile...
My wife can tune them out now. I run calls around my house off and on all year. Of course the closer to season we get , the more frequent it becomes.

I'm in the same boat as Davis... Usually asked to just play in a different room, if that's an issue. I've played everyday of the last year, a minimum of 20-30 minutes. Often times longer.
Finding an old lady that supports our passions for this great sport is a necessity. Make her realize how much you love turkey hunting, then tell her you love her just a little bit more than that. If that's not sufficient, she ain't the one.

thing is , my wife knew my passion for this sport long before we married. She can read a book while I run through calls and very seldom says anything about it. I respect her wishes when she tells me that she does not feel very well or if I get waaaaaay overboard hammering out loud cuts and cackles.
My wife has not problems with me playing my calls. She just puts her headphones on and listen to music...
I play my calls in the house and my wife we tell me, "I liked the second one, that first one was too raspy" I got a good one that knows the difference between a jake and hen yelp. As long as I don't disturb nap time for the kids im good to go
My daughter who isn't even 4 always wants to play with the box calls when I get calls out.
Mine don't mind a bit. Says its only bad when the person calling sucks at it.Course she helps debone deer and turkeys. She has even shot a few herself. I got a good one.
He has a waiting list but I do not think its to crazy - his mini boats are killers!

I have my office(pastorial study) Hunting room I go in and hammer away with door closed around 11:00 she says honey time for bed. I got a good woman who is ust to it.

Can't say as I've ever gotten chirped at for calling in the house.
The Mrs. has been there and killed a few. She's my buyer when it comes to calls, a lot of the time.
And NOW...........our newly teenage daughter has downed a couple and officially been bitten by the turkey bug, so...........
I guess I got lucky, my wife never complains about me calling in the house, same room doesn't matter, she is a gem. She does go hunting with me too, doesn't care to shoot one, but loves to get out there with me which is cool.

Luckily, I work solo about 70% of the time in a plant control room, so I have ample time to practice. I actually leave some calls at work all the time to practice with. Plus, we have a very big population of turkeys here at work and I can go out in the mornings and get harass them

Thanks for the video, he's one of the guys who knew and learned from Neil Cost, and the names that roll off his lips.... Tips and technique, I can't learn enough to call in Toms, the older I get the more I realize you learn something new everyday. And by the way my caiiin no matter how good drives my Becky up the wall. :turkey:
Im blessed mine never says a word. She enjoys hunting turkey has shot many of them got one by herself last spring was priceleess how excited she was.
I may have found her limit, too many KeeKee's and gobbles combined with the wind from this North Easter, I'm heading for the barn.

Ralph is one of the best teachers and best paddle call makers out there!!! He is a turkey killing machine. I enjoyed visiting him a few years back and would like to pay him another visit but I need to have lots of cash in hand. LOL!
My wife has not said a word about calling in the house since I came home from the first show and handed her the loot. She asked " what's this for"? I returned " that's from all that calling you've been complaining about.
Funny how she had such sensitive ears before that day.

Thanks for sharing this video. Ralph is the real deal for sure. You don't make over 600 calls without learning a few tricks along the way.
I am already getting much better sound because of this video.
It takes about 8 tenths of one second of me playing a turkey call to piss my wife off. She likens it to fingers on a blackboard. She doesn't complain about having fresh turkey meat in the house though.

Couldn't agree more. Snozz is one of the old school turkey hunters who learned the box call craft from Mr. Cost. I sure appreciate the times I've shared with him chasing birds over the years. Just a super guy who taught me a lot about hunting turkeys. Here is my favorite long box ever - a Snozz special in every way with a maple lid sitting pretty on a sweet talking piece of persimmon. I've had this probably 15+ years (number 388 on his long list), and it just gets better each season as it ages. Crazy how that happened.

I've already had my wife and daughter tell me to be quiet a few times. Especially when I fire up one of my boxes or scratch boxes.
My wife says do you need to try them all a turkey is a turkey is a turkey. I said that's not true you may not here the diffance but the turkey's can she rolled her eye's at me like ya right.
