Took my two Rem 870 wing masters and set them up to shoot lead. Duracoated both guns, tru glo sights, kicks chokes and shooting winchester lead 5's and 6's. One has a 21" barrel/ .660 kicks and the other 28" barrel/ kicks .655. The majority of the turkeys I have been killing in the last 5 years or so have been inside 20yds. I've gotten to the point I like to see how close they will get. Thats where it gets exciting..turkey that close drumming and gobbling is the most incredible experience I have found in the woods. They say a bugleing elk in bow range is about the only thing that tops that..maybe one day..Just made sense to go back to lead. Interested in trying the new winchester loads and see what kind of results the members on here are getting. I purchased allot of Winchester 1 3/4 and 1 7/8's  6's when they went on sale at Wally World. I still need 5's but they will have to shoot really well to pay what they want for them. 20.00 is getting close to HTL price. Last purchases I made for HTL were 19.99 at academy and I bought all they had in 6's. Deer season now and I'm already looking forward to turkey season.  :z-guntootsmiley:

Try both chokes in both barrels.  Many people say the shorter barrels like a tighter choke.

I think you're in the right range with .655 and .660 in the Kick's GT chokes.  I have a .650 GT for my 870, and it's probably a little too tight for my 28" barrel using turkey loads.  But the squirrels hate it when I use light loads through it!!!

Yup, I tried the .655 out of both barrels with the 1 3/4, 1 7/8, and 2 ounce 6's(winchester). Best I could get out of the short barrel was 110-115 @ 40. The 28" will turn 130's-140's @ 40 consistently and occasionally a little better. The 28" will turn over 100 with 5's @ 40 with the .660 . I'm curious to see what the .660 will do out of the 21" with 5's.

My 21" 870 will break 100 with Win HV 5's and a Kicks .660.  I have not had another choke consistently outshoot the .660 Kicks in my gun with lead or hevishot.

I really like the kicks chokes. Have them in all three of my 870's. Well made chokes and they seem to shoot multiple loads well. I have other choke/ shell combos that make the gun a one shell gun. I've noticed with Kicks I normally don't have problems with the POA/POI like I do other turkey chokes. Kicks has been one of the best lead choke on the market for me and they do really well with HTL.

P.S. That is a turkey killing pattern with the HV 5's. Nice.

I'm shooting an 870 SM w/ 23" tube and a 655 Kick's GT. 3-1/2",2 oz. #5, I'm gettin a lil over 100 in 10" @ 40 yds. I can't wait to try the Longbeard xr load in #5 in this gun/choke combo...

I turned my best Pb patterns to date with a 870SM 28" barrel and ventilator .655. 3/2/6's turns 160's. 870SM likes a .655 choke.
