Title: Favorites from Nashville
Post by: EastKyGobblerSlayer on February 20, 2024, 09:13:34 PM
This year Matt Fulkerson and Val Espinoza put my favorite boxes on the table again for the custom call makers competition. Anything those guys make is a meat call. This one followed me home and I was broke by the time I found Matt again. There's always next year!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240221/3ea2ce560bd854c656e0065a0f2adeda.jpg)

Val has some nice looking and sounding calls, nice guy to boot and I enjoy his warped sense of humor.

I played every box he had left and this one was my favorite. I really wanted the green one but my box sounded like the turkey in my head does.

Here is a call that Val won 2nd in the non handled hen box call division at the nwtf this year. I was lucky enough to be high bidder.

Ohio wormy butternut with an ironwood base. Snakewood lid. This is my 1st snakewood call so I am learning how to play it. Super nice call.

This is the 1st call I have from Val but won't be the last.

I played that in Nashville, it's a little tricky to run as Val left the lid floating up a bit. You can get a lot of hens on that thing.  It's a very cool looking Turpin  and I wanted to bid on it but was too late. Congratulations! Very, very cool!!

Val also makes a nice tobacco pipe. I kept looking for his booth to take a look at a pipe he posted a picture of. Finally I realized he didn't have a booth. I didn't need to spend that money anyway!

I wanted that box you have baaaad. I played it and the entry Matt had more than anything else, I even played both boxes with both makers. They were both absolute killers. Last year Val did a Turpin box just like that in the green rutland that was mean. I spent the year in the woods wishing I had that box so I came home with one of his.

This is my 1st box from him and my 1st Turpin box. I like it better than the handled boxes but it's hard to not like Matt's handled boxes.

Did you try the first place handled Turpin by Tim Oldham Jr ? Awesome running box, and beautiful. I was going to bid on that one but it got too high fir me. Really stunning easy runner with great sound and consistency.
