Looking at buying a used encore turkey barrel. Seller says it is not drilled and tapped for optics. I've read that some gunsmiths won't touch it due to not enough "meat" on the barrel.
Never used reflex or red dots. Would they use the same screw holes as the iron sights/FO?
Just trying to understand my options as I felt the 43 year old eyes last season.

I have had 2 encore barrels one camo one blued
The camo. One was tapped for two holes the blue was not
My TC Encore 12 gauge came drilled and tapped from the factory. But it was Turkey specific.
Have a good one

I have one that's at least 15 years old. Realtree advantage Camo factory dipped so that tells how long it's been around. It is drilled and tapped. Killed a lot of birds but it is the hardest recoiling gun I've ever shot.
I have at least 20 turkey guns and my T/C Encore is my favorite. I have 2 of the camo version and both of them came drilled and tapped.
I'd look into a 20ga Barrel. The 12 kills on both ends.
