I have a old 500 bantam that I am trying to set up for my girlfriend. I am trying to find out what base I need to mount a dot scope. I bought a pre 97 weaver 88 base at the local gun shop but it sticks out past the reciever like 2 in. Surely there are bases made for the smaller bantam recievers?

The base that you need is a weaver 88A top mount.

That's the one I used when my sons were shooitng the 500 bantam.

I went and compared the recievers for a 835 and a 500 20 gauge and they look like they would use the same mount.  Look on weaver optics website and that should help.   :anim_25: this spring

Turkeys are as smart as hunters make em and public land offers more classes.
George Washington didn't use his freedom of speech to defeat the British, he shot them.

500AS (Pre 1997) & 600 Shotguns    88 (48088)
500 (1997+), 590 & 835 Shotguns (Matte) 25   417M (48440)

It would depend on the year that the gun was manufactured, if the pre '97 is sticking out that far I would say that you would need the 417M.
The above list are fom
Weaver's sight.
I just put the 417M on my boy's 500 Bantam's, but they are new.

Hope this helps some
