Title: La-done
Post by: honker22 on April 03, 2017, 03:55:56 PM
Not much of a story on this bird.  After I tagged the 2 year old on opening day, I spent the next day searching for "bigger" birds and got on this one for over an hour but he wouldn't commit.

I took dad with me this Saturday and the plan worked perfect.  As his gobble indicated, he was an old bird.  He gobbled 50 or so times on the roost.  Yelped twice to him when he hit the ground.  5 mins later, 25 yards and the 20 gauge barked again.

This may be the only time in my life, I will ever say a bird this big will not be my top bird of the year... I've been extremely lucky and it's been a fun season so far.

19 lbs
1.25 spurs
Beard- didn't measure.  9-10"

My "spur selfie"... yes it's a joke but I keep taking them.

Nothing wrong with that bud. Nice bird. Hope to be taking similar pics in a couple weeks. Always good to get a bird with Spurs over an inch long. Seems our mountain birds often don't get there and I'm assuming it's either genetic or terrain dictated. The field birds where I live now have a better chance but I do prefer to hunt the mountains for them.
