Title: rem1100 youth 20gauge 2 3/4'' questions
Post by: blackmagic on January 19, 2018, 10:44:58 PM
like many on here i'm trying to set up a gun for my kids (daughter's up first).  Choose this gun because it was my first shotgun....and i already have it and it kicks like a feather.
1st i'd like to get it threaded for a choke.(who should i send to have his done)
2nd i'd like to put a reflex sigh on it.  recommendation on sights, why, and mount options.
3rd i'll have to find some decent 2 3/4 shells and choke.

unfortunately, can't go overboard, i'm just a poor ol' teacher and hunting budget just got absorbed by a new truck.  please let me know any recommendations.  good used gear is great with me.

i'm thinking i like the speed bead on a FF. I don't know much about the original, II or III.
I'm also thinking about sticking with the fixed mod barrel for this year.  I plan on all shots to be under 20 yards.

I love the Speed Bead mount and have it on 4 of my turkey guns but to me the Speed Bead for the 1100 seems to have a flimsy mount, I have included a couple of links to show you why I think it is flimsy. As far as a reflex sight you can't go wrong with a Burris and I would choose the FastFire III over the FF II, the main reason is you have to remove the sight from the mount to change the battery on a FF II (the battery is on the bottom) and you don't have to with the FF III.

I believe the Speed Bead mount for the 1100 or 11-87 are the only ones made like that.

I know Apex loads some 2 3/4 TSS shells. And I just loaded some of my own in 2 3/4 TSS #9 that should have a velocity of 1200fps ish.

thanks for the links. I can definitely see how there could be an issue.  I wonder why they had to make it like that.

Not quite sure why they made them like that but I wouldn't trust that mount, the ones with the solid plate are awesome though. They sit low enough that you can sight right down your rib and use your bead, kind of handy if your battery has gone dead or if you forget to turn your sight on.
