For those having trouble getting the same count that I did there are numerous twin and triple strikes on the target.
Ouch. That will leave a mark.
Cheap star dot strikes again!
Who needs Hevi 13 when you can put up numbers like that with LBs
Don't flnch. Youll miss by a mile. Lol
that just might kill a bird
Wow!

That will flip a bird ????

I have found that shooting a couple of dirtying shots breaks up all those double a triple pellets and fills in the gaps in the 10 circle. This is from a freshly deep cleaned barrel.
What is LBs? Long Beards?

Yup, longbeards.
Those StarDots are just amazing!
I wish they still made the original. It was one more awesome choke on a 835.
First long beard I have heard breaking the 300 mark. What size is that small circle, 3"?
You better hope he doesn't get any closer! A slight muscle twitch and you've missed that bird.

I hate to say it, but yea, I'm with Ricky and Tim on that one. Been doing this for 45 years, and might have been born at night,... but not last nite.
Could have been a fluke, cause I have seen some weird stuff at the bench before, that I couldn't reproduce again.
yep really 40 yards.

Nope!

Going to play with it some more this weekend. Right now it is out shooting my BPS with 3.5 heavy #7. What I have noticed is that it is throwing a lot of double and triple pellets when it is very clean. That's why its hard to count the pellets on the picture. After shooting a couple of dirtying shots The twins and triplets spread out but the 10" count drops to 260+. Much more even though. After shooting two targets like this I thought if its doing that good the XX 3.5-2-6 should do great. Wasn't even close and I have killed a lot of birds with the XX loads. The best I could get out of them was 194 in 10". If it stays like this with the Longbeards I aint touching it. The 25 yard pattern would easily decapitate a bird. I don't like shooting long distance at birds but for science sake I am going to back up to 50 yards Saturday and see what happens. You fellers have any ideals on the twin and triple pellet strikes? Oh and I wouldn't try to pull wool over anyone's eyes. I realize that you boys have experience in these matters. I just thought it was super cool seeing it do this.
I'm calling BS on that pattern. It's suppose to be 40 yds not 40 Mother May I baby steps. Get ya a rangefinder for a TRUE 40 yd pattern !
I have one. I have two distances set up. one at 25 yards and one at 40. I have 8 turkey guns and this is only happening with this one. No reason to try to pull wool over anyone's eyes
320+ at lasered 40 yds with same load different gun and choke combo though. It can happen. No flinching up close.

My guess is, those were made on Friday, and someone got the epoxy mix wrong. :toothy9:
I put up over 300 with 3.5" 2 oz LB 6's through my 870 SM with PG 0.670". 26" bbl. put up almost 200 with 4's. My steps average just over a yard. LB shells shoot tight.

Were you able to repeat it?
Amazing numbers. I'm just concerned about the small gaps. Hopefully, those gaps are not consistent. Good luck.

Its a 10" circle simply reporting my findings. Happy hunting guy :smiley-char092:
That should do it.
Awesome pattern. Watch out Tom :OGturkeyhead:
Calculations??? It's a ten inch circle calculated and certified by Stanley.
:morning: Mercy! Have ya shot 50 yet? I don't as a rule, but am curious. :camohat:
The gaps disappear after a couple fouling shots in my gun. Several hunters on Facebook have posted nearly identical patterns recently with that same load. My concern is a 10 yard shot on a bird that comes in behind me. I shot the same load through my BPS with a .665 IC choke and it was a big hole at 25 yards. At 40 about the same as the 835. I usualy shoot magblends in the BPS so as a control I shot a mag blend then a long beard at 40 yards from the BPS. No question the magblend was much more forgiving. I am rethinking what I want to do now. I used to think it was cool to get it tight as possible for the occasional 50 yard shot but now looking at it logically I shoot more birds at 20 to 25 yards. Going to take some thought.

:morning: I got caught up in the #'s game back when Turkey Thugs were the rage. Patterned all my guns with the 3"x 5's and stocked up. All my guns shoot great hunting patterns and I'm a happy guy! :camohat:
Why doubt him? I think it's awesome he was able to achieve those numbers. Good work

Not yet. We have another place to shoot that we can back up all the way to 100 yards. The bench is on wheels. I am going to try it tomorrow if it will quit raining.
:z-winnersmiley Pay NO attention to the nay-sayers on here they are jealous their set-up isn't as impressive as yours....personally I think it's great when fellow outdoorsmen/women have success!!!! Folks on here are acting like the 300 mark is impossible....well you have proof it's not and so do I in the form of a SBE 2 , Roberts Final Strut .650 choke ,H-13 3.5"-2.25oz.-#7 ....40yds. LASERED 336 hits in a 10" circle once 317,308,299,and 321. Shot one box of 5 and they ALL put up kick- #s. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR!!!!
Im gonna have to break out the star dot now and try the LB's

Stanley is incorrect then, because duct tape is 2" wide. If that duct tape is 2" wide, then that ain't a 10" circle. That's a fact!
The tape used is 1.88" wide that's a fact. Try again chief
Well you went from saying if that tape is 2" wide to saying it is for a fact 2" wide then explain this?(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160401/24bce0430a88500da9844b96aafccc7a.jpg)
So you used a baseline of 2" wide tape and said my circle was 10.5 if not closer to 11 inches. So when you adjust for the fact it's 1 7/8" your little to scale operation comes in at 10" or in your case you'll still try to rebuke it by saying its not a true 10" circle. Next time you're at Wally World check out the ole tape aisle take a nice bite of that crow.

Too tight! You best hold a tight bead on one of he's standing at 20, just my opinion.

Yes I can duplicate numbers from 320- 340 with LB 6 out of my setup. That's great you get such impressive #s from a HTL load but that's an apple to oranges comparison. I can also get from 290 to 310 with a rob Roberts .660 with the same load. Not bad for lead if you ask me.
I know this was a while back but I might have discovered something. The double and triple strikes may have been the product of the resin being a little too binding. Different lot aint doing this. If it stays nice I will do some more patterns with a new lot and post the pics. The dirty barrel must have been dragging enough to break more of the resin. Stay tuned
It appears my assumption about the resin holding together tighter than normal was correct. More than likely W-W already knows this and changed the formula. I am going to try to go to the range this weekend and do some more work with the set ups. despite the huge pellet counts I didn't like the holes in the patterns. I will take a really even 270 count in 10 any day over an inconsistent 300+.
There is a stardot on eBay right now with a buy it now for $225 ????

I seen it too.
I am a First Time Hunter this year ( starts April 15th) or the saturday closest.
I have read article after article and I want a Star-dot .676 Near impossible to find affordable but I did find
http://www.colonialchokeandtool.com/colonial-mossberg-835-ultimag-elite-series-ported-turkey-choke-tubes/
Full: .685 Constriction
Extra Full: .680 Constriction
Extra Extra Full: .676 Constriction
$61.53
There were a few changes through the years with stardot. I'm sure you can search the many discussions. However I do have a few of the originals and they do shoot great. But my PG'S I believe 670's beat it every time. So don't beat your heads in to buy a 20$ choke fore 200. Plenty of equally good ones out there.

Just curious what changes happened? I believe they've always been a .676, just some had a knurled end and some had a straight, just that problems happened and PTC Technology started putting their name on them (Colonial still making them). I had a few of each but never compared patterns between the Highlander vs PTC.
