Title: Best .410 turkey gun
Post by: Borden811 on February 13, 2023, 07:23:22 PM
In your opinion, what's the best patterning 410 turkey gun on the market. I realize best is a subjective term, and depends on the individual gun, the choke, ammo, etc. But overall, does there seem to be one gun that's easier to get good patterns out of?

Mossberg sa410 with jebs full choke is a good place to start. A solid 40yard gun with foxtrot ammo.

I've had 4 of the Stevens 301 410's and had no issue getting killer patterns out of any of them.  Factory choke or Indian Creek 390 and Apex Ninja or Foxtrot, they've all thrown great patterns.

Mossberg SA410 is also an excellent gun.  I had an Indian Creek 385 in my SA410 and it was crazy good with Foxtrot.  I sold this gun recently because it was too big for my daughter, but this would be my first pic for a 410 for anyone besides a little kid - it's a full size gun

I don't think you'll have any issues getting excellent patterns out of any 410 if you get a premium choke and premium ammo.

I have a first year production Mossberg "Baby" Model 500 .410 turkey gun.  It's full coverage MO Obsession camo, 26" full choke barrel although the fixed choke is actually extra-full(.389) and double bead with a FO front.  It shoots POA=POI.  Patterns very well with Federal Premium #9 TSS.

The nice thing about this shotgun is I use it also for small game hunting.  I had a wonderful squirrel hunt with it last fall and bagged a six squirrel limit with six shots.  I like Winchester Super X 3 inch #6 for that and Federal High Brass 3" #7 1/2 for cottontail rabbits.

I don't have a lot of experience with the .410 bore but can say I am very happy with this particular one.

I'm leaning towards a Cva scout. It'll be easier for my daughter to use with the reduced length of pull and short barrel. It also comes with a Jebs choke from the factory. Seems like a decent place to start, and the little bit heavier weight might help mitigate recoil for her. I just don't want to pass up something better if one is head n shoulders above the rest.

The CVA is awesome. No recoil, super compact, and amazing trigger.

I'll second the cva scout.

Super compact,  great trigger....and spits out wonderful patterns. Doesn't feel cheap like the others.

What is the weight of the CVA Scout? Online i've found 6 lbs. It cannot be that heavy can it?

I went CVA scout, over the Steven's.

Cva has, better trigger, better scope rail, better loc up, better metal, factory Jebs, I could've bought the Steven's, then paid for a better scope base, and a better choke, to still come up with a less quality gun at almost the exact same price as the cva starting out.

I've used a .390 Indian Creek, with foxtrot legend #9.5x10 and it consistently did 210"-220" at 40yds.

I never counted the factory Jebs, but a buddy got a scout and started with it and a nitro T4100 #9.5. His out the box broke 200".

I've gone back to the factory Jebs, and t4100 and it's a sweet lil set up. I have a .385 Indian creek to try this spring just haven't tested it yet. The Jebs, is a .385 so figured I'd try a ported choke vs non ported factory Jebs.

I got the cvs.  With the factory jebs and apex ninjas it's lights out at 42 yards.  Done, over!  That was all I needed to see.  I set ours up with a Burris fast fire 3,  the rail is nice.  It's a solid gun for the money.  I took the stock plate out for my 10 year old daughter.  The reduced length of pull is great for a child.  She is a small framed 10 year old girl and shoulders it with ease. To me the CVA felt and looked like a more solid gun than the Rossi and the Stevens.  The Stevens does feel lighter than to me.

Price on the 301 is hard to beat, but the CVA is solid also.
