Title: Benelli
Post by: obro on April 01, 2021, 04:19:11 PM
With populaity of the 20 gauge and TSS combo  I cant believe they dont make a M2 20 gauge with a 21 inch barrel . They come out with the SBE 3 in 20 and the shortest barrel is 26 . Their focus must be of wing shooters and not turkey hunters .

I think you may be right. Both my SBE I 12 ga. and my Nova 20 ga.  have 24 inch barrels. I don't think you can get anything shorter than 26 inch in either one now. I think maybe the Nova Youth may have a 24 " barrel but not the adult version.

Franchi has a 20 gauge Affinity turkey version that is a rifle sighted 24" barrel

Benelli SBE is a great gun. They cycle flawlessly, are light weight, and pattern fantastic. They are worth the cost if you want to be sure you have a semi-auto that will cycle without trouble. I did get both of mine early on before the pricing went crazy. Mine are original Heckler & Koch SBE 1's. My steady grip turkey model has a 24 inch barrel....

I have a SBE 2 with a 24 inch barrel . I also have a 12 gauge M2 with a 21 inch barrel . I would love to have a a 20 gauge M2 with a 21 inch barrel . My point is with the popularity of the the 20 gauge I wish the would expand their line up in 2O gauge . You can argue they did they brought out a SBE3 in 20 . It has a 26 and 28 inch barrel . That is not directed towards the turkey hunting crowd . Plus the new 20 has a funky new 3 piece receiver that does not look like you could put a red dot on it .

I completely agree!!! IMHO...right now the best 20 gauge turkey gun FEATURE WISE is the Tristar G2 Viper in bronze/bottomland or Mossy Oak Obsession that has the 24" bbl. , pistol grip, drilled and tapped receiver with a pic rail.
Also, Retay has the 20 gauge turkey XT model - 22" bbl., drilled & tapped with pic rail in camo. Has tool free drop out trigger group, and a new improved inertia plus action that is designed to never be out of battery.

Mr William Sumtoy does a outstanding job if your looking to get one cut and threaded.

i'm looking at the m2 in 21" barrel, have you patterned it for turkey w/TSS? if so, how does it do, choke, etc please?

I have had good luck with an Indian Creek 665 in my M2 21 inch gun . I have shot 2 1/4 and 2 oz  8s in both Apex and hand loaded ammo .

Sorry it's been 2 years since we tested those loads . Once I was happy with what I had I threw away my test patterns .

Not to derail the discussion, but what thread pattern did you go with on the new chokes? I wanted to find a used Vinci and have the barrel cut to 22-24 inches.

I don't know, honestly. Sumtoy cut it and made a choke for me that worked good. I just never did ask

I believe he threads them with Truchoke threads. He just cut and rethreaded my Retay Gordion 12 gauge

I have a benelli m2 12 gauge with a factory 21 inch barrel. I run an Indian creek .665 and shoot 2 ounces of TSS #8. Average 310 #8 in the 10 inch ring at 40. Had it dipped and the receiver tapped for a vortex venom by Tad at Carolina hydrographics.
It is the best handling and pointing gun I own. My franchi affinity 3 12 gauge is a close second. My 11-87 compact 20 is Nearly as big and heave as the m2.
If I buy another 20 it will be a franchi affinity  3 and I'm having the barrel shortened by sumtoy.

I would love to have my SBE II cut down from 28".  I hate carrying it around in the woods. Roughly what does it cost to have it cut and rethreaded?  I may even have it redipped.
