Title: Ithaca turkey slayer 20ga
Post by: Old Timer on July 15, 2019, 10:09:56 AM
I have been reviewing the Ithaca turkey slayer 20. Looks like one fine firearm but it weights as much as many 12s. Although i own semis i prefer a pump action. I used an 835 for turkey but thinking of a 20. Dont know which manufacturer im going with yet.

Yes, it's a tub.  I have one.  The best thing I can say about it is its trigger.  I don't want a turkey gun that shoots like a 20 but carries like a 12.  The BPS, Henry, and Savage bolt action guns all are in the same weight class as the TS.  To get lightweight, the Mossy Super Bantam in a pump is the lightest and some of the autos are in the 6 lb. class.  Weight tames recoil, but you still have to carry it in and out of the woods.  I can control gun weight far better than my body weight.  Gil

I looked hard at one after a friend bought the 12. Very well made, love the fact that the barrel is threaded to receiver, good trigger and really nice sights. I just couldn't get past the weight.
