Title: Maveric 88 for TH?
Post by: qbaker on September 01, 2017, 10:25:38 PM
New to TH: Any thoughts on the Mossberg Maverick 88, 16" for Turkey Hunting? Not sure if the choke can be changed either?

Thanks forum

My first shotgun was a model 88 and I actually took my first bird with it. Mine has a 28" barrel, you may have a hard time with that short of a barrel as far as getting a good pattern, but you won't know until you shoot it. As far as it accepting chokes or not that barrel should be threaded so it should. Also, if for some reason that is a fixed choke barrel any barrel from a Mossberg model 500 will fit it.

I would get the 500 or the Rem. 870 ..20 gauge ....leave the 88 on the shelf ...

I totally agree with Greg.  Leave the Maverick on the shelf, spend a little more and get you a Remington 870 either in 12 or 20 gauge.
