Title: Reporting In
Post by: GobbleNut on April 26, 2016, 01:27:02 PM
Congrats to all teammates who have been successful.
I've been out on-and-off for a while now and just thought I would update my season with a couple of pics.
These are Merriam's birds from our recent hunts here in southern NM

First is a bird I took on the Mescalero Indian Reservation 4/17  ...He got a bit messy in the snow

These are a pair of public-lands birds taken by myself and a hunting buddy on the morning of 4/21 in the NM general season

Nice. How was the hunt on the Reservation?  Did y'all pick up plenty of sheds?

The hunting was good, not great.  The weather sucked one of the three days of the hunt, and the birds were henned-up bad enough that it was tough finding cooperative gobblers. ...When we found one, though, they were very willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the cause.

Shed hunting is not allowed, but it wouldn't have made any difference.  I never found a single shed antler during the hunt.  I think the tribal members keep them cleaned up pretty well.  Anyplace they can possibly drive a vehicle, they do, and they make the rounds pretty regularly, I believe.
