Title: Mossburg 835 patterns - I think i have a winner
Post by: Jourdan_D on March 06, 2011, 01:54:09 PM
Well i went out a repatterned my gun yesterday and i'm pleased with my results.  I'm shooting a mossberg 835 with a 24 inch barrell.  With a Jellyhead and Nitros i'm getting 275 in the 10 at 40 and with hevi #7 3.5inch and a kicks GT .670 i'm getting 282

Those are great patterns.  Thinking I'm going to make the switch to Jellyhead.

Have you tried the Pure Gold choke?  I'm using it now in my 835 w/24" and I'm not coming anywhere near the numbers that you are getting.

You name the choke and i've have shot it out of this gun.  Mine hated a JH unti9l i shot nitros from it and i beleive the pattern is from the shells not the choke in this case.  The best one with hevi13's has been a kick gobblin thunder.670 the a kicks GT.680 and the thrid best was a Indian creek.

The pure gold choke is my first aftermarket choke and let me tell you I have spent a ton on ammo just trying  to break 150 pellets at the 40yd mark.

the Puregold out of my gun with hevi#7 3.5 was shooting like 160's.  But then i polished my barrel and the number went up to the low 200's with the puregold.  I sold it becasue as you can see from my first post i'm getting better numbers with a different set up.  I would recomend getting a a Kicks .670/.680 or a IC and shooting hevi #7 and you will see better numbers.  also polishing your barrell will help out a whole lot also

How tight was the pattern at 20 and 30?  What was the pellet count with the GT .680 at 40?
Im leaning towards a GT .675.  Thoughts?

20 about the size of a softball, 30 about the size of a basket ball.  With the .680 i was getting around 230-240.  i would say go for it.  but you're really going to have to shot it to see if your gun "likes" it or not.  835 likes to be choke around the .680 to .670 from what i've seen with my gun.

what loads?  i have one that got 302 with the 51013a loads out of a jh and 260 with the 517t and same choke.  i have another coming and plan to shoot a rhino choke with the 517ts and hope pray for 300+ out of it..it seems very proven.

good patterns no doubt!  hopefully my new one will perform like that with the nitros.
