Got my tom yesterday around noonish. Done for the year most likely as I am content with one bird and with populations seemingly declining in many parts of our province, I think one bird is plenty for me (and all of us who hunt in Ontario, Canada)..
He came out of woods across the field from where I set up. Took over an hour to come in... no decoy..I wouldn't have even had a chance to set one up as he surprised me when I saw him appear... called and called.. softly sometimes forcefully. He sure took his time gobbling all the while.. He kept to my right for most of it, but then cut across me but too far out (60+ yards). As he continued moving off to my left, I became discouraged... purred a bit..soft yelps... waited, waited waited... then the bugger started coming my way and much closer to the tree line I was set up along.. Then I peaked to my right and there was another tom!!! that's why he decided to come back, I figure... so I was lucky! As he came back toward me (a bit more deliberately this time) to meet up with his "adversary" he crossed paths with my Benelli and trigger finger and that was the end of him.. pumped him with #6 winchesters - A great hunt and LOVED every minute!

Congrats! Great bird. Sorry to hear that the birds are declining in your part of Ontario. In my area of Ontario there are so many birds now that I wish we could kill 3. And boy I would not be happy with one now they are finally getting established in our area. Same with deer they are everywhere.
Congrats. Nice bird.
very nice...congrats

Where are you in Ontario? I live in T.O. and hunt north of us - Simcoe County... bout 45 min.
Nice bird and hunt, too bad the birds seem to be declining in your area. I hunt in Norfolk county and I have never seen this many birds before, 12 years of hunting, I agree with timbrhuntr about the limit going to 3, believe it would not hurt, once again nice bird!!
great bird man!
Congratulations on a fine bird! Sounds like a great hunt. :icon_thumright:
