Title: Well, here is my contribution to the Winchester Longbeard saga.
Post by: TJK68 on March 18, 2014, 06:55:29 PM
I picked up some 3 1/2" #6 Longbeards the other day, and I gave them a try today. I was shooting my 870 with a 26" barrel,  .662 Hevi-shot tube, about 45 degrees and no wind. I shot from a taped 40 yards. I also shot one time using the factory choke. Overall I am very impressed, best patterns I have ever got with lead. I will probably pick a couple more boxes of these up and when the last of the Hevi-Shot is used up, I will most likely start using these. I do not see how I can go wrong with these for the price and results I got. These 2 are with the Hevi-Shot tube, 10" circle.
Thanks Tom

Factory choke tube, 10" circle, still not bad.

That's crazy.. I can't wait to find 6s. 3" 5s I shot today were too tight IMO for me to hunt with. 6s might be the answer however.....

Got some 3" 6's to try out when the weather cooperates. I've had enough winter here in WY!

Those are some great numbers.  I am getting even more anxious to test mine out.  I picked up a box of the 3" #6's since that's all I could find around here.

It looks like the LB ammo is shooting same poi as your hevi. This seems odd. with mine its about a 6" difference in poi between the 2. I have a scope on my gun as well. Most others say they dont shoot the same poi as the hevi's as well.

None of the pics I posted were of my HEVI-13 ammo, 3 shots and 2 different chokes, all 3 1/2" #6 Longbeards

I don't think your patterns would kill a turkey,

That was 150 yards away wearing a kevlar vest...LOL

Wow those are really nice patterns, I mean even with lead 6 being a little less energy than most are used to these days that many hits on target it doesn't matter.

I've been a big HTL guy for the last 7 years or so but you all are gonna make me go buy some of those LongBeards!    :z-winnersmiley:
