Thinking of picking up a spare barrel for a Mossberg 500 12 gauge. Does anyone have suggestions as to what barrel length to get and load/choke recommendations? Experiences with either length will be greatly appreciated
I went with a 20" and XX Full choke a few years ago and never looked back. Handy, easy to point and effective.
Thanks. Looks like a good day for you.
I have 3 barrels for my mossy 500 28", 24(slug) & a 20" Hands down my favorite is the 20" barrel. It patterns great with the .660 Carlsons long beard xr choke shooting both lb xr #5 and mag blends. With the chokes and loads available today your not giving up a whole lot with a short barrel. :z-twocents:

Ya, it was indeed. My season started last Wednesday, was fortunate enough to tag out with that double shortly after 1st light on day 1. Spent the rest of the week working on the property and sipping boubon ;)
Be well and have a great holiday weekend

Great minds think alike eh? LOL
Went from 24 to 20. What I got is a much louder gun. I think you could get either to do what you want. So, it comes to personal preference.
I bought a 500 Turkey Thug with a 24" ported Barrel. I prefer a 24" because l don't like a red dot or a scope. I have missed too many birds with short 20" Barrel shotguns.
