Title: Getting close
Post by: jarbo03 on March 15, 2016, 05:25:38 PM
Opener is coming on fast.  Have had unseasonably warm temps, even looks like I'll have to mow this week.  Heard some reports of gobbles over the last week,  along with the first mushrooms being found.  Been on a few good crappie and white bass trips recently,  once Royals baseball starts, my favorite time of year will be in full swing.

Been snooping around the woods a little. Birds are just starting to sound off here. Still have a month to opener so we will see what happens but I am ready to get at it!

Quite around here, listened for a while this morning and didn't hear anything but song birds and crows. It was 85 here yesterday, near record highs for my area this time of year. A little green starting to show up down on the creek. If the warm weather holds thing should start to really green up in a few days.

Been warm here in upstate SC, however it's supposed to cool off for the opener on Sunday.  I love a cold morning turkey hunting, but the highs are only supposed to get into the mid 50's with light rain. Not ideal from my experiences where I hunt but we'll see...

Went scouting yesterday, checked out a couple of my spots. Saw a bunch of hens in one place and a few miles down the road I saw 4 strutters and hens in that spot. I've had good luck in that place before but turkeys have not been using it much in the last 3 years. Happy to see they have moved back in, lots of scratching's and tracks. Hope they will hang around until mid April.

This pic was made in late April.

Heading to Florida next week.  I am told the birds are looking good.  One bird in particular has my intrest.  He looks to be an old warrior.

Anyone want to get a hunt in together I'll travel a couple hours from Kissimmee. Just want to get out and hunt, heck why not with some team members.

I would definitely be interested. Don't think I can pull it of this year with my work schedule but next year I think I could make something work.

That would be a great idea, maybe the team can work something out during the season. I know I would be interested...

Picked up some new ground today, saw 30+ birds there during goose season, season should be a good one.
