Title: Beginner Locator Calls
Post by: Colt6920 on May 04, 2013, 10:25:06 AM
I am relatively new to turkey hunting and am hoping to get input regarding locator calls.

The few times I have gone turkey hunting, it has been with a more experienced hunter. He would do all the scouting and calling. He also knew the area like the back of his hand.

I am going to be hunting by myself the next few trips and want to make sure I have every advantage I can get.

I feel an owl call and a crow call would be helpful trying to locate birds on unfamiliar land.

Would I be making a mistake purchasing the following calls?

Owl = Hook's Harrison Synthetic Hoot'n Stick

Crow = Crow Slayer 'Hunter' Crow Call

Or would something different like a peacock or hawk call be better suited for me?

I live in Ohio if that helps with anyone's recommendations.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe the owl and crow calls are just what you need. They should be practiced right along with your turkey calls.

Whenever u get out of ur vehicle slam the door it will sometimes make turkeys gobble. Haha no don't do this but it will make them shock gobble. I personally use a owl call all day and so don't abunch of other people I know.

Owl and crow will get it done.  I also have a pileated woodpecker that will sometimes get them to gobble
