Title: Lead 6 pattern federal turkey thug #6
Post by: scdxt on February 24, 2013, 07:11:55 PM
Well I got my rainy day hunting stoeger m2000 out the other day. Running a kicks .665 24" barrel at a lasered 40. I shot several different lead 3" loads. Best of the day was federal strut shok turkey thug 3" 17/8 #6 from Walmart. Got 131,124,118 in three shots. What y'all think. Always hunted with 5's.

If you know where some turkeys are and can hunt them I'd say you might be wanting to buy some grease next. :turkey2: :newmascot: :OGturkeyhead:

Thanks guys. Haven't hunted with lead in a few years. Figured I would try the 6's. I use this gun on bad weather days and my Benelli m2 on the nice days. Can't stand to get it wet lol.

Looks good. I picked up a box the other day too. Maybe I can about the same results, when I get a chance to shoot them. Not bad for a $10 box of shells.

I'd go back and buy a few more boxes since they shot that good.  No use in posting a sob story if you miss one, as none of us will believe it was the gun!! Nice pattern..

I was not planning on patterning my guns again but I think I am going to have to try this load out before Federal decides to add the FCW to it!  ;D

yes sir I run a .665 in my stoeger and a .655 in my Benelli m2. They both produce good even patterns. I recently switched to a Indian Creek .665 in my Benelli. It shoots between 140-150 with the thug 6, and around 125-135 with thug 5s. Much denser pattern with the IC choke good and even. Hope this helps. Your .665 should shoot fine. Run some shells through it and good luck to everyone this season.

Thanks for the info!I have been contemplating an I.C choke but i wasn't sure if .665 would be enough constriction for a benelli barrel and lead shot.Might have to try one now!thanks again...ward

I'd say grab that IC anyways, never hurts to have too many chokes laying around!
