Title: Benelli SBE 3 turkey choke suggestions?
Post by: Thompson418 on March 20, 2018, 07:46:12 AM
Just wanting some advice from those who have patterned their sbe 3 with some turkey chokes. Looking at possibly buying a jebs. Anyone have pictures of a pattern with a jebs choke? Also looking into a kicks or Carlson's.

What are you using and what kind of pattern are you getting?? All input is appreciated.

Thanks

My advice is to pick your ammo type first then get the choke to match that. I shoot a rob Roberts 655 out of my SBE2 (same gun as the 3) with 3" magblends and average 220ish. That choke and ammo combo works very well in that gun.

If you wanna shoot longbeards instead then Ive had great results with Indian creek 660 or a kicks 660.

I've done a bunch of testing with mine and the 650-660 range was the best in mine.

Thanks for your response.. I most likely plan on shooting longbeard 6 shot. What type of numbers did you get in a 10 circle at 40 with the kicks and Indian creek for this shell?

Thanks again

I had pics but I can't find them. The Indian creek 660 did better in mine with 5 and 6shot in the low 200s with 5s and mid 200s with 6s. The kicks 660 wasn't far off of that.

To Reynolds 243, I also have a sbe2. Did you ever try 3.5 inch magblends?

Yes and they do great but I didn't care for the recoil personally and the 3" patterned so well it wasn't worth it to me

Thanks! I just bought a rob Roberts 655. Also have magblends, 3 and 3.5. Going to try them out next week. Glad to know they work well in your gun. I'm thinking about buying an M2 for my dad and setting it up for him. Thanks for the answer! Good luck this spring!

I tried both. Wasn't a fan of either personally but again that's just from my gun. Jebs was better then the Carlson's but it was marginal.

I shot the Jebs .660 in my SBE2.  It was a good even pattern. I don't have any pics of it and I can't remember the numbers but I do remember it was good.

I shoot a Jebs 655 in my SBE2 and get excellent results with LB 5's & 6's at 40 yds.

Gobbler 428, do you have any pics of that pattern? If not.. how many hit send do you think you have in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards?

Thanks

If you decide to get the M2 for your dad I've got a Rob Roberts .655" & .640" I'm wanting to part with...$65/each-shipped. BTW....if you might be willing to try this Roberts .650"+H-13 3.5"/2.25oz./#7s=336 in 10" @ 40 yds.....just a suggestion.

Hey Bink, Just saw your message. I did get the M2 for dad. Already got the Rob Roberts .655. I also have several other chokes. I've had a sbe2 for 10 years or so and love it. I've collected chokes so we have quite a few to try. Thanks anyway. Haven't shot the M2 yet, I been collecting shells now waiting on decent weather to get out and pattern.

Don't have pictures but had 190 hits with 3.5  #5"s at 40 yards and the pattern was nice and even - no large gaps.

I did some testing with my new sbe3 this weekend.  I have a 26" barrel and rob Roberts 655 choke.  I did testing of all 3-1/2" shells... mag blend 567, hevi #7, longbeard #5 .

All of the shells did pretty good however I feel the Hevi #7 has the best overall pattern both at 30 and 50 yd.

Anyone have suggestions on how to post pics?  I have I phone and attachments are too big.

I have a 24 inch sbe3. I run a RR 660. I tried a bunch of chokes and it shot best with nitro 7x9
35 yards
