Guys, I have a question. If you had to pick one slate call to hunt with the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Lonnie Mabry cedar slate, most realistic slate I have ever heard.
My little cluck in purr pot that I made out of a plastic bottle
Eddie wynne persimmon slate.
I'd have to go with a Paul Platz cherry slate. Redbeard's would be a close second. Both calls just sound better than other slates to me.
If i was pick anther makers slate it would be lonnie sneed one of the few i have run that wasnt higher pitched like glass call
Just one would have to be mabry cedar slate. Have others that sounds as good or better to my ear now but definitely has the most kills.

I have never had the privilege of running a Mabry, but hope to meet him, eventually. I bet I have bought 7-8 Sneed Hot Hens, to get one that I will not sale...EVER. With that said, I am now carrying a grey slate in a chestnut pot, that Mark Cunningham made, and I have no intentions of looking any further. This reminds me; I have several slates that I need to sell.

YINGLING slate over slate in a cherry pot. The turkeys really like this slate.
Nathan Taylor
Ambrosia Maple / Red Slate
Thanks, guys! I love hearing what calls everyone would choose if they could only hunt with one.

Solid choice! I planning on hunting mine this year.
If I am limited to one I would have to go with a Paul Platz cherry slate I killed birds with last few years but I am really liking the red and green slates this year.

That's always been my use for a slate, a clean non glass sound. Having a slate that sounds like glass defeats the purpose in my mind. The two I prefer are Sneed or Madhatter for that reason.

Corder
Lonzo birdseye maple,,
Mabry cedar slate with Sneed Hot Hen slate a close 2nd.
Mine would be my Lonnie Mabry walnut slate. I killed my first turkey with it and as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke ...
Lonnie Mabry cedar with a Halloran hickory striker. Second would be a Mabry walnut and third a Sneed hot hen. I have all 3 but the cedar always has first spot in the vest.
Ricky Padgett Spring Allure Persimmon Slate over Glass
Roger Parks Gobbler slate.
My Cody Woodsman DD
my slate over glass in walnut
I'd say a Lonzo Padauk slate/alum
Eddie Wynne slate
Mabry walnut or cedar, Wynne persimmon, Sneed Hot Hen are all great choices. I have a Brad Roberts cedar/green slate that's amazing and a Buster's Canarywood slate that's awesome too.
John Sinclair green slate over copper in ziricote.
One slate call = CODY World Class Slate
Why = Performance
Been over 20 years and the call kills!
MK M GOBL
Paul Durham Koa slate
Did you see the one he recently posted?

My Paul Durham slate is awesome and my Rodger Parks rocks too
Cody ll been my hunting call for over 18 yrs. Have taken it all over the world . 2nd would be a 1 of 1 from David Halloran laminated pot .
Where could a guy purchase a mabry cedar slate?
Eddie Wynne persimmon slate, although I've don't have a Mabry cedar slate to compare it to.
I got a slate from Clint Corder I really like
