Title: Pattern good or bad? BPS IC .665
Post by: Midmohunter on April 01, 2013, 10:59:47 PM
I used Winchester high velocity 3 inch number 5 1.75oz. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not bad for lead 5's. put er at 40 and see how much more it opens up.

Definite turkey killer at 30 yds if you are content with that. Only way to know if it will hold up at 40 is to shoot it and see.

Would hevi-13 #6 be the better option?

That would be a lot better than what your are shooting now yes.

But what you need is a .670 or .675 choke shooting 3.5" 2.25oz #7's if you want numbers at 40yds.  I got just the choke for you.  You find some of those 3.5" 2.25oz #7's.  Then if that Indian Creek BDS .665 choke don't work to your liking, then try one of these chokes.  Then shoot at 40yds at a big sheet of paper or cardboard and I do mean big.  Then draw a 10" circle around the densest part of pattern and post your results here.  I think you will see the light then on what is an excellent pattern.

Hevi is correct, you will lose appx 100 pellets from 30" to 40" with that shell. Now is this a 3" gun or 3.5?If it is a 3" chamber, and your going to shoot lead, get some winchester xx 3-2-6 shells to try they ought to smoke in that combo. The win hv have shot well for me in the past but this year not so much.Don't know if something changed or if i got a bad lot. Also mite want to try the grey box win in 3-1-7/8-6s or the turkey thugs in 3-1-7/8-6s.If its a 3.5 i don't know what to recommend but i'm sure others will have suggestions.Or go hevi13 7s with Hevi's suggestions.

One more thing before i forget lol!Make sure your barrel isn't getting fouled with plastic wadding, and in my experience the brownings can get a little tempermental in cooler temperatures.Brush between shots, get a good warm day,and try using 6s instead of 5s( in lead)and watch it come alive...hope it works for ya....ward

X2  Well said
Be aware you will be paying ALOT for the Hevishot, but there is a rebate right now to bring that high price down a good bit.

That .665 will shoot great with hevi 6, 7, or Mag. Blends, my buddy's BPS is averaging 240 with that choke and mag Blends.
