currently i have the rem 870 pump, wich tips the scales a bit over 7 lbs. i was wondering who make the lightest 20 and might as well bite the bullet and buy an auto while i'm at it. does any one know any wieghts on these guns, say beneli, rem, moss, etc.  not looking for a single shot here either a pump or auto. preferably the auto i think it would kick a bit less and my son and wife would appreciate that.

Benelli ultralight I believe is the lightest.  Franchi in the 48 model is light but they never had the forethought to expand the chamber to 3".

Yep.  If the franchi had a 3" chamber thats what I would hunt with.  Benelli M2 stated weight is 5.7. Franchi 720 upland short stock weighs 5.8. Those are the 4 lightest Im aware of

sounds like i might better stick with what i got and spend my money on more tss.

I have the Franchi 720 .Its @ 6lbs .28'' barrel. It does cycle the 3 '' shells very well ,With no issues yet .I like it for lightness ,My brownings are much heavier to lug around .

gobbler336

of hand does anyone know what an 1100 or 1187 weighs.

CB on the run

My 1100 20ga w/synthetic stock & forearm w/red dot is just over 7lbs.  You'll trade weight for recoil if it's for your son.  I'd port that 870 2oga and have a really good recoil pad & possibly synthetic stock added.

thanks fellas, so the franchi is not gas operated and the beneli might not cycle my tss loads, and the 1100 wieghs what my pump does now.  hmmmm, sticking with what i got sounds better and better.  unless i find a great price on a 1100 or 1187 i think i will.  anybody know what the older browning invectors wiegh, a guy just priced me the pump for $300 used.

They are basically the same gun, but light with light recoil.

However, it is a shooter, but not an expensive gun at all, my Charles Daily Field Hunter Pump 24" bbl, weighs in at 5lb 6 oz

those are $1000 guns, bud i'm just a pooooor ol country boy that is addicted to killing turkeys i just couldn't justify that when my ol 870 does the job.   that charles daily sounds nice, have you shot tss through it, and if so how did it do.  does it seem to be made well? does it rattle?

Have you looked into the new Mossberg 20s?  Made in Turkey, gas operated and very light.  Plus...they AREN"T $1000.00 guns!!

I've got the same gun in a youth model that I use.  It weighs a tad over 5 lbs.  It will kill at both ends with Nitro 7's.  I easily get circa 200 hits at 40 yards with an Indian Creek .555   It also used Remington Choke tubes which is a plus in my book.

Have you looked at a Tri-Star Viper G2 in 20 ga?  I don't remember there weight but I know they are light and light on the Bank account.

turkeytromp

The Franchi 720 only weighs in at 5.8lbs the gun is a dream to carry and shoot! I just bought one a couple months ago and set it up for my late season turkey hunting and or second bird this season I hope.
