Title: .410 Rio in California
Post by: Hayudog on April 25, 2020, 10:52:28 AM
Drove back to California from Idaho on Thursday. Decided to try to hunt on Friday morning. Heard a bird as I walked in. It's a small property, and I can't run and gun it. It's a set up in one place and call birds to that spot. Anyway. Couldn't hear the bird from where I was set up. This guy came quiet. He never strutted.  Beard was thick, but thought he was a gobbler.  My new Yildez.410 that I set up this year did him in. Not a long shot, 20 yards or so.  He's actually at Jake I think. Dink spurs and the fan is stepped. I've taken scoring pictures, if I don't kill an upgrade.

Nice work Hayudog.  Congrats.  He looks like either a young 2 year old or a super jake.  Either way we'll take him! I like the .410 too BTW

The .410's have been a fun project. Got birds last year with the Savage 301T.  It's heavy for a .410.  The Yildez comes in at about 3 1/2 pounds. Honestly feels like a toy.  I just ordered 20 brass .410 cartridges to reload. The hand loads are running over 150 hits in a 10 circle at 40 yards. I can remember when I was happy when my 12 ga did that. I still carry my big gun when public land hunting....my 20 ga.

Congrats brother!! As soon as I switch up to a 20, you have to outdo me with a .410!!! Best of luck on the upgrade. We need it this year!
