Title: maxus with lead
Post by: SumToy on March 14, 2011, 08:53:57 PM
This was something one of my customers sent me today.   This was winchester 3 inch super X 6's at 35 yards.   He then shot it at 58 yards and it had 17 in the kill zone he said.

They surprised me out of my 870 supermag 242 in 10" circle at 41 yds. 39 in head and neck. I might try the 3 1/2's. Using an IC .655

Stick Bow are you sure you got those #'s with a 3" Win Super X 1-7/8 oz. #6 lead shell? If so, that is unheard of with lead! Heck, I would be thrilled with 142 @ 41 yds with that round honestly.

Also, if you're looking for a 3-1/2" in a Win Super X you won't find it cause they don't make it. The closest comparable round is a Win Supreme Double-X Magnum in 3-1/2" - 2-1/4 oz.

Shell used was Winchester Supremes 3" #6's 1-3/4 oz.

Are they Supreme Elite Xtended Range or Supreme High Velocity?

Getting 242 in a 10" circle at 40 yds. would be hard to come by with a 3" HTL load much less a 3" lead load. That would mean you were retaining appox 66.85% of your pattern inside a 10" circle @ 40 yds. with Xtended Range or 63.02% with the HV Lead load.

.655 is an awesome RemChoke exit diameter for Lead, but I can't believe 242 at 41 yards.  Maybe the shot cup opened late?  Did you shoot a second pattern?

No second pattern for I only carried the one shell of Supreme High velocity just to see how it would shoot. I was mainly testing the mag blends and Winchester Extended range which I had plenty. There will be lead in my gun come 1 Apr.

Here are a couple of gray box 1-7/8 oz #6 patterns shot through my rigs set up for Hevi 2.25oz #7's. I might play with some tighter choke diameters after the season and see what I can wring out of them.

I'm having a real hard time beliving that one. You didn't see much more than that out of the 2 oz hevi #7s last year, let alone 1 3/4 oz of #6 Lead.

Were you sure you weren't at 30 yds?

If only 39 in head and neck that leaves 213 . I believe that radius was 10" making it a 20" circle.

226 in 13" at 35 Yards is the best Lead pattern I've ever shot, and it was a 1.875 Ounce mixture of #4x#6x#7.5 Lead, using a 28" 870 & Indian Creek .665 choke.

242 in 10" at 40 Yards with Straight #6 Lead is really hard to believe.

I know it seems like we're piling on you, but either you have yourself a world record 10" Lead pattern, or you did something wrong.  Pictures and witnesses are needed.
