Has anybody hêre "Given" up their Spring and or Fall Turkey Opening Days as well as many Prime Early Season Days to help out a close friend and or family member?
I have enjoyed this early on. Problem is, I am getting Tired or Burnt out Mentally and then physically late in the Spring Season when,I am now hunting alone and looking for Tom #2 when,I should have been tagged out earlier- which then would have freed up time for Another State.
Of course thêre have been alot of Spookings and misses over the Top because of Turkey Fever and then,I have to give up more Prime early days.
As a "Nice Guy",I have a problem saying no. Next Spring however,I may have to say- As soon as,I tag out-- I can help you. And, I would be able to hunt more prime early days in State #2.
I would like to get back to bagging 3 or 4 a year- not getting any Younger..
Has anybody else hêre been relegated to " Guide/Caller?
It got so bad for me I just quit hunting last year.
There comes a time when they need to start calling for themselves. But yes I have spent numerous days calling for friends when I could of been hunting myself. I enjoy it though.

Just the grandkids. And next spring probably my son in law. I've always kept opening day for myself. I've "guided" and called for several people, but the opener is all mine. I don't feel guilty about that. I treasure the first hunt of the year and love the solitude and opening day gobble.
Yes, and I actually enjoy it. I have been there and done it before so seeing others experience it for the first time or three is a plus. I do agree that eventually these people need to learn for themselves though.

If you're taking the same buddy over and over that's one thing, and if you're just hunting together that's another.
I will say, everyone only gets one first turkey, so if you're often taking first timer friends there will be frustrations/hiccups along the way but being apart as many of those "first turkey" experiences is one of the things I have enjoyed about my last few springs and wouldn't trade that for more days afield by myself.
Nobody wants to hunt with me, so I don't have that problem.
I'm there. The first ones I really enjoy. It's when they want you to continue to call for them that gets me.
I've killed only a few on opening day in my home state, but I've seen a lot die on opening day. If it's my brother, one of my boys, or my main hunting partner, I'm all for it. Several I know just want to shoot one to say they did or post for others to see. I avoid those anymore. If they haven't invested effort or interest in turkey hunting I am cautious and selective on who I hunt with anymore.
I have. When hnting with my buddies, they will say call that sucker up hear , and point their gun in the direction of the gobbles. Funny thing is most times I end up shooting him. The gobbler I mean. If they would call the gobbler would come to them.
This "calling one up for a buddy" business is along with social media posts a major factor in the decline of turkey hunting.

Like Chad said the short answer is "yes"......however starting last year I told friends to supply the "turkey woods" and I would
provide all the rest of the ingredients to get to cooking!!!
I always tag out first then I'll happily help anybody that needs help
Yes I use to do it often. Problems have risen when newbies do not listen. I have enjoyed teaching young and older with success, nothing like it, very rewarding. Some I will hunt with again some never. How I handle it now is when im asked I say do you have a place? I will take you but after I hunt on my own and tag a bird (not their place). If someone is sincere and will pay attention and learn their in.
I have called in a few for folks but on their club or land and not mine.
I called in 2 for my dad last year and one later for his buddy.
I called in another couple for a friend that took me to his new property that he bought
I have read all the replies so far. Glad,I am not alone. I just have to be a little more firm about being alone on opening Day.

Copy that!
I enjoy seeing someone else shoot a turkey as much as me shooting one
I help out on more birds than I kill in a season. Sometimes it can get overwhelming with the people that ask me to help them.

This.... Most of the time. It's one thing when the guy from work wants to go hunting vs the guy who is a real friend.
I'll call for anyone ever needs or wants calling for. The shooting part's easy. The game of its what I love most. Win the game and I could care less who pulls the trigger, unfilled tags or not.

I don't mine helping a family member or friend in calling gobblers, they just have to ask.. in my opinion one of the best ways to learn about calling gobblers is learning from your own mistakes. Even us season hunters still make mistakes in hunting these gobblers. I have in the pass called for friends that got to killer there first gobbler.
I only call for my dad. He don't get around so we'll anymore.
I dont really have that problem while turkey hunting. But I do when I go fishing. With extended family, friends and children on board I'm relegated to rigging, baiting, untangling, unhooking, filleting etc. I can't remember the last time I actually caught a fish!
Been there. Done that!....Lot's of times in the past. Word to the wise IF you hunt public land (or land you do not have exclusive access to): TRUST NO ONE! It WILL come back to bite you in the butt at some point down the road! ::)
Along the way,I have had some super easy shots on nice Gobblers "if",I was alone. But,I am the caller and the person shoots over the Top- " again"...

Learned that lesson many years ago. Co-worker was looking to take just a doe. Knew I was regularly successful where I bow hunted on public ground...he asked and I told. The next year he was there with four or five guys. This was even though I told him not to spread it around.
I put people on 4 birds and killed 4 myself this year. In random order, I killed 3 of mine pretty early in the season as well with one of em being on opening day. Wish I'd had time to keep hunting, work had me too busy to travel much after that. Still a great season.

I enjoy hunting with friends and family. I couldn't count the number of people I took to get their first bird. It's not unusual for me to have 2-4 people with me. I get some days to myself.
Been doing it that way for 30 plus years.
Good times, I encourage it.
Memories...
When I was younger I would " pimp" myself out a lot . Nowadays I'm very selective on who I'll go with
I enjoy helping someone else get their bird. Especially if it's the first or second time they have gone. I remember that feeling I had when I got my first 2/3 birds. I'll find time to go, because honestly, I enjoy the hunt more than I do the kill. Don't get me wrong...I long as I bag one now and then I'm good. To think I had some small part of their excitement is an awesome feeling. Only 8-9 months to go...unless you fall hunt.
i have been asked by some deer hunters and i said after the first week we will go, they have lost any interest by then..
I'll put a lot of birds before mine (tag), but I'll still squeeze the trigger on them :)
So for how/where I hunt our "Learn to Hunt" and Youth Hunts happen before our regular season opener. So they are always first, then I have a Charity Hunt that gets priority. From there we are on a lottery system and just ends up to when I draw a tag, if I draw late other go first, of if same season we are together and then comes down to shot opportunity. It all goes by the year and how tags run. If I travel out of state it's all on first opportunity.
Another for me is when a birds beats us, then he's on my "List", I'll take whoever I'm with to another spot and see about another hunt, but then I'm after that other bird, it's that challenge that I go for.
My tag goes on about 1/3 of the birds in a given year.
