When it's all on the line what your number trumpet for the woods? The one that when she comes out turkeys die!
Well, I only killed one bird totally with a trumpet and it came into a buff/blackwood Cox call. Hopefully I can keep it going and get another one or two with it this year.

I killed my first 5 trumpet birds many moons ago with a Buckner Trumpet. I started hunting with a trumpet many moons ago .I always have a Cox (one of many) around my neck and a Hornstra ( again one of many) to boot.I carry a Buckner and a Gibson in my vest pocket. I've start with soft yelps and change calls if I don't get an answer. I want to sound like multiple hens.I've killed birds with everyone of those calls.I like Cox and Hornstra mouth piece design. They just lay right on my lip.That doesn't take away from the killing ability of the others.I'm a fan of a well made , good sounding trumpet whoever the call is made by and am confident in my ability to kill with one. If they died every time, I would have quit a long time ago. I am a fan of the "One Man Game" getting my butt kicked by a old gobbler that will challenge me is why I love it.Die every time, no challenge in that....

My Permar Model 45's, although the new Classic I have from him is really working well for me and I will start the season using that one.

I was looking at his .45 model what was the price on it if you don't mind me asking. I have a ironwood trumpet from Gene Shoemaker that I call in my sons first bird with and now tha addiction has started lol.

To be honest , I have a whole lot of trumpets and it really doesn't matter which one I pull out. They are all good and unlike other turkey calls , a trumpet is unique in the sense that if you draw on them with your style of play then most work about the same. I can run a Prudhomme , a Kp , a Lapp , a permar and any other that I have in my collection and kill birds. To my ear and the way I play , they all sound pretty close the same. Just my opinion.
I have some I like a lot and some I may never grab. The list of trumpet makers for the ones I like are the usual suspects. One newer maker, Jeremy Simpson, has 2 in my collection that are right in there with the better known makers.

I also think they all sound similar to my ear, but I seem to have more action with certain calls. Maybe coincidence, maybe not..
My go to is a Buice but there are a few and I swap up mouthpieces

I agree with this. I traded a call for a battey trumpet (200+$) and then decided to try the Mosses Creek WingWood (25$ shipped) and when it came in and i ran the wingwood, I was blown away with how similar they sounded to my ear. So I took them outside and done a video sound file with each in the same video and if it wasn't for me physically showing each one before I played them, you'd swear I never changed calls.

I own many, many other trumpets from some great call makers, but I hunt with one of Mr.Billy's trumpets. :OGturkeyhead:
I've owned and traded / sold many turned trumpets over the years, Watkins, Buice, Hegler, Permar, etc.
After all that I'm down to what works for me and I gravitate to the Bott adjustable.

I have several but my go to is an Anthony Ellis (AGE) blackwood with buffalo horn mouthpiece. It accounted for another gobbler this morning. He makes a great call.
