Took my 28 inch Browning Cynergy and built a 28 inch version of the Browning Ultimate Turkey gun. I had a gunsmith drill and tap a 4 inch Picattiny rail on the receiver. I put a Rob Roberts 660 choke in the lower barrel. I put a Browning Full Strut 640 in the upper barrel. This gun patterns fantastic. I shoot 3.5 inch #6 Long Beards through the upper barrel. I shoot 3.5 inch #6 through the lower barrel. Top barrel is super tight, lower barrel a bit more open, but very even pattern. It was cost effective to set up my own version of the ultimate Turkey. Even though it has 28 inch tubes, the gun is one inch shorter than my Super Black Eagle Steady grip Turkey gun that has a 24 inch barrel. The gun is balanced, weighs 7.5 pounds, and kicks less than my Benelli. I put a Nikon Spur Red Dot on it. It is now my go to turkey killer. Be safe.
That is awesome!
Thanks my friend. Be safe, good luck this spring...... :turkey2:
Helpful info for anybody that likes the Browning Ultimate Turkey. It is pricey, around 2000 bucks. The gun itself is a Cynergy 3.5 inch. The only difference is the Picattiny rail, and peep type sight they install. If you want a red dot or other optic on your gun, you don't need the peep. My Cynergy cost 1500 when it first came out. May be up a bit know. The Picattiny rail I installed is a bit bigger than the factory one. Allows for more eye relief with your optic. I used a good gunsmith, he said there is plenty of metal where he installed the rail. All in, I had 60 dollars in the rail with installation. You end up with the Ultimate turkey gun, saving several hundred dollars. I even purchase the spreader choke from Browning for the upper barrel, (close shots) I do however prefer having my choke set up, thus I have 2 tight shooting chokes. Be safe.....
great post, I personally have seen this gun shoot any it is everything that you say it is and I think that you have done a great job of building a perfect turkey gun that any one would be proud of. :)
Thx RO. You can borrow it anytime. :turkey2:
Very nice gun.I have thought about the Browning o/u turkey gun a few times over the last few years. It is such a nice looking shotgun.Enjoy.Good luck this spring.
Thank you. It is a fantastic gun. Whether you build your own, or buy the finished product, it is really advanced right off the shelf with its lengthened forcing cone, back bored barrel, vortex technology, and the adjustable comb gets you right on the optic you choose. I love it, be safe and good luck to you too.
Looks like one mean turkey killin machine. very nice
Looks great! They are killers. My shoots one currently and he has taken a few birds with it. He had it dipped in obsession.
Awesome setup. It's cool to see an O/U on here dedicated as a turkey gun. I hope you have a great 2020 spring gobbler season!
Thank you. I wish you success this spring, be safe, and bag some big guys......
Nice gun
Thanks my friend. Good luck to you. Be safe...
One thing my buddy does with this gun, is he always seems to shoot the wrong barrel lol.
I can see that happening, that's why I use 2 tight chokes, either one is deadly to a comfortable 35-45 yards... I use Long beard 6 s in upper, and Long beard 5s in the lower barrel. Good combo... thx be safe.
Browning just received my recently purchased 24" Cynergy Ultimate Turkey back at their service division after sighting it in dead-on at 40 yards with #9TSS with the bottom barrle, the top barrel would shoot ~18" high versus POA. Tried several different shell brands, shot sizes, shot types, chokes, etc all to have similar if not identical results.
Wow, there is a higher POA with the upper barrel, but not that much. I have the Browning Full Strut 640 Choke in the upper, and a Rob Roberts 660 in the lower barrel. My lower barrel is sighted in right on the round red waddle, and it is dead on. My upper barrel shoots just 2 inches high if I aim at the red wattle. I hold it just a touch low, where the feathers meet the neck on the upper barrel. It works, easy to remember. I shoot 3.5 #6 Magnum Long beards in the upper, and 3.5 inch #5 Long Beards in the lower. I will try and post my patterns. Shot today.
Here is the results of my shooting today. 50 degrees, no wind. Upper, and lower barrel. Not a huge difference in the 2 barrels. Hope you have success, Browning stands behind their products. Be safe, be well.
The left target is the #6 Long beard 3.5 inch Magnum. 1050 FPS, 2 1/8 oz shot. Lower barrel is 3.5 inch #5 Long Beard Magnum !050 FPS, 2 1/8 oz shot. Good luck.
Just thought I would update this thread since I finally got word back from browning. I have copied and pasted their reply. Not good news in regards to getting the gun back corrected (I really wanted this gun), but good news that Browning is willing to accept that the performance is not what was intended and they are willing to make me whole again.
"We have completed our evaluation on your Browning Cynergy Ultimate Turkey shotgun. Our testing indicated that the Point of Impact was not within an acceptable range. Unfortunately, we do not have replacement barrels or guns available. Production is very limited on this model and we do not have any due in the near future. We have the option of refunding you for the purchase of this gun or possibly replacing the gun with a different model in the same price range. When offering replacements, we use MSRP. If you need to acquire a gun for turkey season and would like to pursue the refund, please forward a copy of the sales receipt. We will refund you for the purchase price of the gun and applicable sales tax."
Wow, sorry to hear that. I got lucky, mine is pretty close on POI. At least you have choices, good luck and thanks for the info.....be well, let us know what you get next. Be safe....
The good news is that they will give you MSRP. That gun is well over 2000 bucks. That takes the sting off hopefully. Good luck.....
