Title: Got started making mouthcalls last night
Post by: killitngrillit on February 22, 2018, 11:21:38 AM
Decided to try and make a few calls for myself and friends and built a jig as well.  I was going to weld up something but then I saw a 20 dollar drill press at lowes and figured I would start from that.  First call I made was a 3 reed call and after a V cut, I have to say I think it's going to call me a gobbler this season.  Experimenting with different reeds with my limited supplies but I'm hooked.  Was going to upgrade the clamps but actually the binder clips work pretty well!  I use a ruler clamped to the non moving side of the jig to measure displacement.  Now I need to find a better way to cut the tape.  Anyone made a die out of a hole saw or similar to use against a piece of hardwood to stamp the shape out?

Simple but effective . No $500 press needed.

That's purrty cool. I've been toying with the idea of making some calls myself.
