Title: Patterned the ole 1300 today
Post by: TnTurk on March 02, 2011, 09:20:12 PM
I've been wanting to get my first turkey gun (25 years old) fixed up a little so I can hunt with it some this year. I gave her a good deep cleaning, a good polishing, and loaded her up with some Hevi 3-2-7 topped with a PG .670 choke.  I got 218 at a taped 40 yards shooting a Win 1300 with a 22 inch barrel. I think she'll hunt.

I'm tempted to buy a .660 (JH or IC) to pattern and see what kind of numbers it will throw. Do ya'll think it would make a significant difference or should I be happy with what I got?

I think you will be see a good jump in a 660.  IMO, stay where you are at.  I am sure you have good 20" #'s which gives you a little wiggle room if your shot is not true.

I own a 1300 as well, but 28" bl.  I've patterned many times and consistently get about 40 pellets more with my PG .670 as opposed to my JH .660.  I'd stick with that .670

I shot a 1300 with xx 6's and a  .650 hastings for several years before the hevi shot come around.  It was hard to beat back then.
