Daughters first solo

So, today was youth day in WV. My daughter sealed the deal quite nicely with "her" gun this morning. She had a lot of help with her first one but did this one entirely solo with dad just watching over her shoulder and whispering in her ear. After what looked and felt like a blown morning, we moved over to the field because we heard turkeys in the lot behind it. She got excited cuz she's never shot a turkey before. Watched a deer well out of her comfort level walk into the woods and another at about 350 yards for a while. Then 2 broke over the knoll at about 150 yards angling down towards the woods. Knowing she'd never shot farther than 100 yards I told her to shoot the young one expecting it to "give up the ghost" a little quicker if things weren't perfect. Having other ideas, it took the lead and paralleled the woods. That put the focus back on the momma. Told her what to do and she fired. Heard the impact so I opened the bolt, turned the scope back and was getting her ready for a follow up. No need though. Before I could even get the bolt totally closed for her, the old gal was going down. I tackled her, hugged her and kissed her. We waited for a few deer to exit the field and then went to claim her prize. Just another proud father moment. Kill or no kill, it was nice being out there with her. The deer was simply a bonus.

Congratulations to the young lady.

Thanks fellas. She had a blast. Took her for breakfast, got her a treat of her choosing and let her pick where we went. It was cool to not have to be in total control and just watch her light up with excitement. My girls haven't always been a focal point in my life. Made some mistakes when they were younger. Paid for them dearly. Changed perspective on many things. Seeing that beautiful smile and feeling the joy she had at that moment really made my day. Love my girls. Just so glad to be able to be with them when time allows.
