First spalted

So for five and a half years I have been trying to make a good pot call and failed. Finally I have made about 10 different ones that sound decent in maple and walnut. I decided to try some zebrawood and the first piece I found was spalted. I have never worked with spalted wood and now have a new respect for those of you that build these amazing looking calls using the spalted woods. It's definitely a lot harder to work with but the outcome is neat. The piece I am working with has had many worm runs and rot so I decided to leave some of the imperfections in the call and give it some character. At the last minute I decided to go with a green slate surface instead of glass and didn't get to sign this one so it will stay in my own arsenal. Building these calls is fun for me and a challenge to myself to get better. Sorry to bore you but wanted to share. Not sure how to post pictures or I would.

The worm holes and flaws are the real beauty of wood.

Some of the black and white ebony i get has some worm holes, some were truly amazing!

Completely agree.

The easiest way to share pics is to use an image hosting site like postimages.org . If you need help you can email them to me and I can post them for you.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field
