Help With New Build

I've decided I want to build a new turkey gun from an existing 20g 870 I have.  For 30+ years I've been shooting just a bead but I wanted to do something different so I ordered a Shurshot stock, saddle mount and went with a TruGlo Gobbler Stopper red dot.

The mount and red dot came in yesterday and I installed it on the gun today.  I bought the Weaver Saddle mount, which apparently is built for the 12g but has shims for the 20 to make it fit.  That makes it sit up off the top of the receiver a bit.

All that being said, I'm not happy how high everything sits above the receiver.  It very well could be that I'm too used to shooting just a bead and it will take some time for me to adjust but it feels very unnatural.  I'm hoping you all have some suggestions for a setup that will lower the line of sight a bit.

I'm not opposed to returning it all and starting over but I'm hoping for some guidance on where to go next.  I bounced back and forth between the TRS 50 and the TrueGlo.  Does the Bushnell sit any lower?

I've decided I'm going to drill and tap which may help a bit.  (I wasn't impressed with the lack of ruggedness of the Weaver either)

I'd like to go with a Reflex over a Red Dot but I can't justify a Vortex Venom or Fast Fire 3 right now.  Are there any reflex sights around the $50 mark that are worth looking into?

I apologize for the length and amount of questions but I appreciate any assistance you experts can provide.

You won't get a reflex for $50 but it's the way to go if you want low profile. If you'll watch opticsplanet.com you can catch FF2s for less than $150 every once in awhile or check out eBay and try to get a used sight, with a lifetime warranty you can't go wrong with that.

I purchased that site for my sons 20g. Wasn't ready to invest in a Burris FastFire. The site comes with a 1 year warranty and has held up through one season.

I can't get that link to work, can you try again?

Thanks for the tip, I'll watch and see what I can come up with.

Drill & tap.......install a Weaver rail.......Bushnell TRS-25 red dot and go hunt.     Yep.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

I built a similar setup a couple years ago. I used the B-square saddle, but I'm sure it's similar. The truglo gobbler stopper on the saddle does sit high, but the raised comb of the shurshot stock makes it fit well (in fact, shooting a bead with that stock would be just about impossible)

My suggestion is to give it some time, try it at the range. Keep in mind you've built a shotgun that is now an aimed fire gun. Traditional shotgun fit for wing shooting doesn't necessarily apply. The saddle mount and truglo dot is the cheapest / easiest option - but I've had no complaints.

If you want lower, more streamlined- you'll have to do what you said regarding drill & tap with low profile reflex.
