Anybody shot a 870 Express 21 inch barrell supermag?

Greg Massey

My question is why do you need a supermag ?  What are your plan's for the gun ? This day and time the shells and choke makes the gun , not the gun just because it's a supermag ... in my opinion ...

nyhunter

yes I have one and It shoots great .

Thanks for reply. Just had a chance to buy one. Don't have one with that short of a barrel. Why not supermag don't have to shoot 31/2 but can if you want to.

Nothing wrong with a supermag , if i were just going to use it for turkey hunting , i would look at the 20 gauge and cut as much weight as i could ...  but if you want a supermag , go for it ....good luck

SumToy

it will work just fine.  pick a shell then you can match a choke to it
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

I have had great luck with H-13 #6 and #7 out of mine I have shot both the 3" and 3.5" both pattern great. yes there's more pellets in the 10" circle at 40 with the 3.5. you will love carring the short barrel in the woods. I am currently shooting an original Primos Jelly head .660. but there's several good choke's out there. If i were just starting out with mine or didn't have a stock pile of H-13 I'd look very hard at the new Federal tss in 3" . Another good load is the winchester Long beard. Hope this helps you!

Shoot an `05 vintage SPS-T Super Mag + red dot,  same choke. My buddy shoots a later version of the 870 Super Mag with exactly the same choke. I think for whatever reason Remingtons like that particular choke because it seems a lot of folks shoot them with their 870s. We also shoot the 3"  H-13 in #6. That`s a choke/load combo I`d recommend they try for anyone shooting a Remington 870.

Too much kick for me, but a friend has one and swears by it.

I like mine a lot but they do flat kick! Put a slip on Limbsaver on mine plus wear t shirt with a shooting pad in it under my camo. That pretty much does it. Before I did all that the thing would kick me cross-eyed !

Did not get gun.man said it had a 20" barrel, it actually had a 26". I've got a 26",was wanting a shorter barrel.

Don`t blame you. Certainly just my own opinion and you can certainly hunt turkeys with longer barrels ( I have ), but when I think "turkey gun " I think 24 and shorter. Lots of close quarter woods often times, at least in the South.

Gobble!

I wouldn't hesitate to get a 21" barrel. I have a 23" 870SM and love the gun. I'm 30 and don't mind the extra weight and kick.

Had a short barrel super mag years ago 21" ..sold it just not my taste. I will not own a turkey gun without atleast a 26 inch barrel but that's my preference. To me I find them more consistent on the pattern board and patterns seem to be a little better from my experience.
To each theyre own though.

RUN-N-GUN

I have the sps turkey/predator. The shurshot stock really helps. I've never noticed the recoil when I pull the trigger on a gobbler anyway. The extra pound or so of weight is a big issue to me.
